What have I gotten myself into?

I just looked a my stash and UFO's and I am in shock. Absolute shock! I can not fathom the amount of things that I have accumulated in the last year and a half. Well, just under a year and a half since I only started quilting at the end of January 2007.

I decided that I need to add a list of my UFO's to my sidebar so that when I look at my blog, I can be reminded of what I need to be doing.... sewing! After spending a few minutes in my stash room, I decided that I must put things into categories. Now, I am still working on names of the categories (suggestions are welcome), but I have a list of what is in each category and I am absolutely shocked. Wait, did I already say that?

The categories are Flimsies (quilt tops), UFO's in progress and UFO's not started. The UFO's not started are basically where I bought kits and haven't done anything with them except put them in bins for safe keeping or where I bought fabric to use with a certain pattern and put all of that in a bin for safe keeping.

Here is where the shocking part comes in. I have 50 items total! Yes, 50!

Flimsies = 4

UFO's in progress = 10

UFO's not started = 36

I don't think that I will be able to get all of the items listed on my sidebar tonight, but it will happen over the next few days. And I haven't decided how to list the items in the not started category, but I think that I will list the other two with the oldest first and the newest last. That seems to make the most sense.

So, can anyone make me feel better and tell me that they have more than 50 UFO's in any form?

50 is about right for me if I also consider the ones I have not started, but have purchased fabric for.. as it is, I have about 32 started and in various stages of completion. (you can see them at my "in progress" section on my blog - they have their own area...

Stop counting! I think this is very typical quilting behavior. It is called "Quilter's ADD" and there is no cure!

Seriously, only 50? Wimp! LOL, wait until you have been doing it for a number of years!! I agree, stop counting. Your other post about the candy had me laughing so hard!! I find those fiber one bars do that to me. They are only 2 points and fabulous but watch out for the gas!!

50 ain't nuttin, honey! LOL

When I finally come up for air, and realize that I have more UFO's in a year than I've eaten calories in a day, I take stock of them then --- literally give 5 to 10 of them away (you know, I know, and the universe knows that if I've stalled on them for any length of time, they aren't going to be finished and I don't need the guilt)and then I start on a new one!

Look, sister, it's more fun buing the stuff for a new project than working on a UFO anyway, isn't it? AND that's why God invented money in the first place.

OMG!!!! Mark Lipinski is reading your blog! How cool is THAT??!!!

And I have to agree with STOP COUNTING! IF I counted mine, I'm sure our numbers would be the same, I also love to buy new kits and not start them.... Maybe we should start a club and and give a prize to the person with the most UFO's not started.... we could give them a NEW KIT ... LOL

My list is just about as big so you're not alone! I like the name "UFO's Not Started", that's pretty much right on. I've also heard them listed as HSY (Haven't Started Yet). Good luck getting some of them onto a "Finished" list.

I just helped my mom clean out her UFOs and PIGs (we call them projects in grocery sacks)...and she had you beat, but she wouldn't let me toss hardly any of them b/c she still loves and wants to make most of them. My new rule for her is that she can start a PIG each time she finishes a UFO...I don't know if it is really progress, but it seems kinda right. (BTW - she isn't following my rule!).

OKay, GO. Just name them things for Mom and start crnking them out!!! Ha Ha. When I was 3 months pregnant I took a knitting class. I made a baby blanket. The only trouble was it took 21 years to finish the blanket. Ant then you didn't want it. Talk about UFO's.

Love, Mom

I'm proud of ya, Jill! Woo hoo! But can you really call them UFO's if you haven't even started them? (trying to make you feel better...)

Hmm I don't think I can compete. I'm a finisher, very few UFO's, but I've bought lots of fabric this week to start new projects... No more wedding sewing.

If you haven't started them; just bought fabric for a new project they're definitely NoT ufos!!! That should cut your number by about 3/4!!
