Computer Log.... Day 5

Today is Day 5 without my laptop. All I can say is that it is a good thing that I am keeping myself busy because otherwise I would be utterly lost!

For those not in the know, the Geek Squad determined that the hard drive is bad. I got that dreaded call shortly after leaving the library on Saturday. When I went back to my house to look for the recovery discs for the operating system, I ran into my neighbor and he told me that he can take care of all of it. He sent me to a computer shop to buy parts and back to the Geek Squad to pick up my machine. By Sunday night, he had everything that he needed from me.

Monday morning, I woke up to a text from him that indicated he was able to recover the files from my hard drive. Woo hoo!!!

I have been trying not to hound him about the status because I know that he has his job, too. Luckily, I ran into him last night when I got home and he was headed to dinner. He told me that he was trying to find the edition of Windows that I needed so that the same license could be used. The copies that he had downloaded were in French and German, but he knew where he could get an English version. He also said that the file recovery was 65% successful. UGH!!! Cut to me freaking out that pictures or my quilt designs from EQ6 would be lost!

Around 9, he called and asked where the files for the quilts would be so that he could see if they were saved. And yes, I did tell him that these were "like the most important ones" that I didn't back up to my external drive. And because I could never find the files before the crash, I had no clue where to tell him to look. So I scurried over to their place and started digging around the recovered files. After about 10 minutes, I found the strawberry pictures that I downloaded as basically the last known act on the old hard drive. About 10 minutes after that, I found the Super Secret Quilt design!! And the I Spy that I drew up several weeks ago! SUCCESS!!! HOORAY!!!!

Just knowing that the files were saved makes me ecstatic! And knowing that I will have access to my laptop very soon makes me very happy!

I will soon be returning to my regularly scheduled postings!

That is great!! I need to do a lot of backing up of files and I have a lot of things that I have to transfer to the correct format for Keith to take on the ship with him.

HOLLLLLLLAAAA & Hooooooray!
Especially on the count of finding the SSQ design safe and sound. I'd be super sad if I didn't get to exchange quilts with you :(
