Sad day?

Not really! Last night, we had some HUGE storms roll through the area with many tornado and flash flood warnings. It doesn't look like anything has been damaged in my neighborhood, but this made the top 5 news stories. It makes me giggle!

For those who can't tell or have never driven I75 through Monroe, this is Touchdown Jesus at the Solid Rock Church. (There is even a Wikipedia entry for Touchdown Jesus!) It sat 62 feet high and most of the responses to it that I heard were laughs and shock and, "Why would you put such a distraction on a main highway???" Very rarely did I hear, "Ohhhh... It's BEEEEEE-UUUUUUUU-tiful!!!" That response would make me swerve into the neighboring lanes of traffic while trying to stifle snorts of laughter. Seriously?

Anyway, last night, it got struck by lightning!!! Hallelujah!!!

I'm sure that this was quite a site! The video that was on one of the news channels showed the entire structure up in flames!

Here is a slide show from overnight..

All that is left is the metal structure that held the fiberglass on... This just cracks me up that lightning was the demise of Touchdown Jesus!! lol

I got some video from last night of the lighting, but it was the sound that gets your attention the most when watching the video....... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNsS8cxGFDA

I didn't hear about the touchdown jesus though!!! That thing always gave me the creeps!!!! I never did understand the need for it either. Not to offend anyone who is religious..... but I'm glad to see it gone! They was supposed to start working on redoing it, I had read somewhere about it, can't remember what site though. Lets hope if they do build something in it's place, that it at least something pleasant to look at!!!!
