Book Review - Whiter Than Snow

A couple of months ago, I got an email asking if I wanted to receive a book to do a review on my blog and if I wanted to give one away. Well, I already had the giveaway and read my copy of the book so here is my review.

This is the first Sandra Dallas book that I have read and I enjoyed it. The book is about a small city in Colorado in the 1920's that is located on land near a mine in a mountain. One day, there is an avalanche and it just so happens that the school children have just been let out for the day and they are on the road when the avalanche hits.

The book starts out with the townspeople hearing the avalanche start and then flashes back to see how they got to be in the town with their child or children. I really enjoyed reading the back stories to get the history of the characters. It helped show what state of mind they were in when the avalanche hit.

I have read a couple of reviews that said the book was morbid because children died in the story and while the thought of children dying is very morbid, I don't feel that the book centered on this fact at all. To me, the story was all about the parents or grandparent of the children who died and who were trapped in the avalanche - how they held each other up during the search and how they came together to help each other before and after the search. For me, it was a story about community and supporting one another through tough times.

Reading this book had certainly made me want to continue reading the works by this author. In fact, I have another book waiting in my stacks by Sandra Dallas to read!

I like Reality Fiction or Historical Fiction. Your insight is positive and Im certain that is how the author visioned it.

Glad that you enjoyed it! I'm with you..I didnt see the book as being about the children either. I thought it was more about the "stories" Sandra Dallas is my favorite!

Hmmm. Never heard of this author. I'll have to give her a shot. Always looking for good audio "reads".
