Blogger's Quilt Festival

I decided to participate in the Blogger's Quilt Festival this year.

I have been mulling it over for a few days trying to decide which quilt to show and I realized today that I had to post my entry tonight.

I finally decided to show my Lover's Lane! This is a quilt that I started in my first quilt workshop that I took through my Guild and it was with Pat Speth of Nickel Quilt fame. It was quite an adventure for me to take a class through the Guild because I new it was going to be a bigger class and up until then, I had only been taking classes at my local quilt shop. Plus, this was with a quilter who had actually been published! I was very excited!

I think that it also might have been the first quilt that I made where I picked all of the fabric for it. I saw the Flirtations by Moda line and decided that I just had to use that to make this quilt and took myself to Fabric Shack to pick up the fabric that I would need. I really think that this quilt is what brought me out of my 'quilting shell' where I had been stuck - taking classes and making all of the quilts from the kits provided by the shop.

The pattern is Sunny Lanes from Nickel Quilts by Pat Speth.

judge's choice

I also entered this quilt along with my On the Way to Oz quilt into the Quilter's Guild of Indianapolis 2009 Quilt Show and I won a Judge's Choice ribbon!

Here is a different view of the pattern and the quilting. I think that this might have been one of the first 'good' quilts of mine that I quilted on my frame after I was finished practicing. It was definitely the first quilt that I quilted with such a dense pattern and I remember it taking forever!

And this picture should look a bit familiar - it is the one in my header. The quilt is one that is on my bed in the fall and spring. This was taken shortly after I brought the quilt home and threw it on the bed temporarily. The pups got themselves into it. It was almost like they missed it while it was away at the show!

When we first were introduced, you were working on this quilt and I fell in love with it then - and that has never changed. There is nothing I don't like about it- and you had better guard it when I come to visit this spring! (just kidding -but I will snuggle with it - and the pups!)

Nice to see the whole quilt. It is easy to understand why the pups are so fond of it, and you too. Nicely done.

Glad you joined in with this lovely quilt. It's so fun to pick out all the fabrics for a quilt at once. I think that's always my favorite part. Great scrappiness with all the patterns and colors. Thanks for sharing your quilt's story :)

Yay you for the award... Love the color mix! I love how each time I look at your quilt I see a different design... (the diamonds, the squares, etc.)

Beautiful quilt! I love those fabrics and you've done a great job with the pattern. Your sweet puppies are adorable too - seems they benefit from your hobby! And I love the handmade ribbon you won. Awesome that you won, but I think it's even more awesome that the show organizers thought enough of the entrants to make the ribbons.

One of my favorite quilts you've made! I love it. One day maybe, I will take on something more complicated than I do. I was blessed to have met Pat Speth as well. When we first started our quilting group 10 or 11 years ago, Pat was a friend of Char Thode, who was the co-author of Nickel Quilts. Char worked with my friend Christie at a law firm and invited them to come to our quilt group and show us their secrets. We had a great time, and they signed their books which we all bought that day.

Beautiful quilt. Have a great weekend!

The fabrics are great and the pattern is fun. Beautiful quilting too. Picking the fabrics for my quilts is one of the things I enjoy the most (I also agonzie endlessly over when starting a new project). Congratulations on the ribbon.

I always smile when I see your puppy picture in your header. Thanks for sharing the story.
