Birds of a Feather Quilt Show

*** Warning!! Picture heavy post below! ***

While I was in Florida, there was "Birds of a Feather" Quilt Show held by the Peace River Quilter's Guild. The show was what I scheduled my vacation around. Mom, Dad, Granma and I went on Friday. I enjoyed looking at all of the quilts and seeing what they worked on. It seems that they had several classes over the past year or so that member's attended and then entered their quilts into the show because there were a few examples of the work - quite a few more than I would've expected to see.

When we got there, we all got booklets about the show and the quilts and were told to look at a page for a Door Prize sticker. Dad just wanted to give his book back, but we made him look and he won a prize. When we went to the table, there was only 1 thing of fabric left so I got that. :) A Nostalgia turnover.

Here are a few of my favorite quilts.

100_3589 I also got a detail shot of the white cockatiels. The quilting was awesome!

100_3601 The quilting on this one was awesome, too!

100_3609 There were quite a few Hawaiian style quilts. All hand appliqued and hand quilted echoing the design. I'm assuming that this was one of the classes that the Guild had. :)

100_3622 Quite a different One Block Wonder!

100_3625 This quilt was HUGE!!

100_3647 I loved this one!!

This one won Best of Show. It was amazing to look at! The first picture is the straight on view. There was a lot of jeweled embellishments on each panel. I believe that the quilt is called Seasons of the Moon, or something pretty close to that. It's a little hard to see in the first picture, but the 4 panels are attached to a larger black background which was also quilted. It looked like the background was shiny and shimmery so it was not a plain cotton fabric. I kept thinking silk, but I am not sure if you can quilt on silk.

Here is a closer image of the Fall panel.

And then here is the spectacular part! When you lifted up each panel, the quilting design was repeated on the black background fabric. I can't say for sure, but it looked identical to the panels.

I could've looked at this quilt all day!

And here is a slide show of all the pictures I took at the show.

I hope that you enjoyed the quilts!

So cool! I love seeing photos from quilt shows, since I rarely get to attend any myself. And yay to your Dad for winning you a treasure!

I love the quilting on the Fall/black panel piece, but then you probably figured I'd like that one.

Great pictures! Isn't it amazing how many shows you can go to and you see something new at each one? Glad your dad was the door prize winner and you were the beneficiary!
