Blogger's Quilt Festival

I'm getting in early this year! I think that last year I didn't sign up until the last day or so. I have been thinking about which quilt to enter and it hit be like a ton of bricks... Or like a house being dropped!

This is my One Block Wonder titled On the Way to Oz. I used a Wizard of Oz fabric for the blocks and part of the back.

I added a strip of the main fabric to the backing to show what the original fabric looks like.

I made this quilt a couple of years ago when I took a OBW class. I wanted my quilt to be bright and colorful and I didn't want to follow convention and pick an Oriental quilt like the shop was recommending to the other class participants. I finished it in enough time to hang in a quilt show in 2009.

I picked it for the Quilt Festival because I think that after the rainy, wet and dreary weather that we have had in Cincinnati the last few weeks, it is just the kind of quilt to lift my spirits and brighten my day.

Here are some of my favorite parts of the quilt.

This is an area where feet converged together.

In this final picture, you can just see the Emerald City in the corners opposite the apples.

I hope you enjoyed my quilt! You can see the other quilts by clicking on the badge below. :)

This is wonderful! Love it! And your addition of a piece of the fabric you started with is perfect - I always want to see the fabric that one of these starts with.

Nice to meet another OBW fan! I really love this kind of quilt, it is so creative! You never know what is coming out and you can play with the hexagons till you are satisfied.

Your unique choice of fabric made a spectacular OBW. Great idea to put a piece of the original fabric on the back.

I love OBW (which does not explain why the top I finished a couple months ago is STILL not basted... but I digress) ... this one is so much fun! Love how the Oz fabric/print disappears into the blocks. Inspired fabric/method choice; thanks for sharing it!

What a fab design. I love how the Oz fabric creates a new design within the block. By coincidence the quilt I entered into the festival involved hexies and the wizard of oz too!

It looks wonderful! I love the idea of including the fabric on the back to show what it was like before cutting and sewing. I would not have realised it came from that fabric. I think it looks great!
