Sew Mama Sew Giveaway!

I am a little late to the party.... But I am hoping that you will forgive me when you see my fabulous prize!

http://www.sewmamasew.com/blog2/miscimages/giveawayday2012.jpg

I have so much to do this week that I couldn't take any extra time to make any little bags so I figured that this would be the next best thing!

Free Motion Quilting by Angela Walters!!

I got my own copy of this book a couple of weeks ago and I have already used one design in it on a quilt for Heather that I quilted last weekend. I did the double loops design.

My Lula thinks this is a great prize! Either that or she wants me to give away my original so that I don't sew anymore and have more free time to hold her. lol

For those of you who are new to my blog, I am a fairly experienced quilter and I am starting to branch out into Modern quilting. I started my tiny quilting business last year - Darling Jill Quilts. I have had my quilting published in a fabulous book that my darling friends Kelly and Andie wrote and I have quilted for another darling friend Heather who had the quilt displayed at Quilt Market last month! Very exciting happenings for all of us! I also have 3 doxies who like to test out my quilts and appear on the blog when they cooperate. I am working on the last Scrap Squad of my year on the team for QuiltMaker magazine - here is one of the quilts that I made for the Squad.

If you'd like to follow my blog, click the button at the right. You can also sign up to follow by email. And I have a Facebook page for Darling Jill Quilts.

To enter this giveaway, leave a comment letting me know how adventurous you get with your quilting. No reply commenters must leave their email in the comment to be eligible for the giveaway. I do my best to reply to every comment so if you don't hear from me, you don't have your email address available. For those that are No Reply commenters who don't leave their email in the comment, the comment will be deleted and not entered into the giveaway. You can leave your address with [at] and [dot] to keep from getting spammed, but leaving an email address is a small price to pay to hear back from me that you have won the prize, right? :)

The winner will be drawn at random from the comments that remain. I will draw on Saturday morning and notify the winner by email. International entries are welcome!

Check the Sew Mama Sew blog for other giveaways! Good luck!!

Edited to add -  And the winner is #122! Jayme!

How awesome to have your quilts in a book!
My quilting has definitely progressed over the years, but I haven't done anything really out there. I'd love to win the book, because my goal for 2013 is to get a handle on free motion quilting.

Jennifer said...

Well, darn, the first commenter never wins the prize, but at least I have this book on my Christmas list! You know that I sometimes get adventurous with my quilting, but I have lots more fun when I stick to my staples - all overs and pantos!

Heather said...

I keep taking this book out of the library so I can be more adventurous than straight lines and meandering. Thanks for a great giveaway!

Teri said...

Well, I like to do mostly free motion quilting. I'd love to win the book. I have never won a giveaway (I don't enter all the many), so this might be my turn.

Nikita said...

I've only made two quilts... working on a third.. so I' haven't done anything daring yet but I am trying to learn free motion quilting so this would be very helpful.

Lara @ Luellabella said...

I would love to be more adventurous but at the moment I stick to Straight Line Quilting only. My next year's resolution is to learn to FMQ - so I have signed myself up for a class, and I've got this book on my Christmas wish list!

Ellyn said...

all I have done is straight line quilting. I am ready to branch out and this book is just what I need! Thanks for the chance

Tamie said...

I'm not very adventuresome but I'd like to be. Think this book could help me? Thanks for participating in the Giveaway Day.

Andi said...

I am starting to become more adventurous with my quilting. This summer I tried flowers for the first time and was quite happy with the way it turned out! And it was a lot more fun than my usual random loops!

Susan said...

I am probably not that adventurous but this book might give me the nudge I need! Thanks for the giveaway!

kathy said...

I don't do a lot of quilting - more of a crafter/garment sew-er.
I do want a new machine and would like to try free motion quilting this year. We will see if Santa Claus cooperates.
Thanks for the giveaway and please enter mine.

Laura said...

All I do usually is straight line quilting. I would love to learn how to free motion quilt, I just need to find the time!

B Greene said...

I am a fairly new quilter, but I completely finished a full-sized quilt in October including straight-line machine quilting and even some FMQ. I love it and can't wait for some free time to quilt up the next one. I have two quilt tops just waiting!! Thanks for the chance to win this wonderful book. I think it would really help my quilting - love Angela!!!

Deb said...

I prob am not very adventurous.I question my ability sometimes so just stick with the tried and true. This book is on my wish list! I would love to learn free motion...have never done it and am really wanting to.

Amy said...

I am venturing out more often in my quilting...still trying to get brave enough to try FMQ again...my first few attempts weren't too successful...

Ella said...

I've been pretty straight lined based.

Debra Lee said...

I'm very boring. Straight lines for me!

andri. said...

I'm so not adventurous. But I am learning to be more daring! Lol

Melissa said...

(that book is #1 on my Christmas list!) :) I checked it out from the library because I needed to be sure it was worthwhile, and IT IS!!! :)

I'm more adventurous with my quilting in my mind than my sewing machine wants me to be! :) But there's a long arm in my future, so I'm preparing to go hog wild! :)

I'm new to your blog, but I've seen your quilting on Heather's Instagram posts, so I'm definitely a fan of your lovely handiwork. Maybe someday I'll be a competitor... :)

Thanks for the giveaway!

Jeannie D said...

I'm really an amateur when it comes to machine quilting ( I learned to quilt by hand stitching everything)...I am progressing slowly on the machine but have wanted to try "drawing" with the free motion quilting process

Kathy said...

This book is suppose to be phenomenal. And I am liking my chances here, thanks for the chance to win it.

Karen said...

I'm afraid a medium to large Meander is as brave as I've gotten. I have to work up to things slowly. :)

I am fairly adventurous on my machine quilting and can do freehand feathered wreaths but modern quilting is not in my repertoire.

lucia said...

Wow it looks like an amazing book. I had never thought of quilting in double loops, but it is beautiful!

vanaehsa said...

I don't dare go much adventurous in my quilting yet, since i am quite new at it.I have been thinking for long that i should give free motion quilting a try, and this book would surely be a great motivation!

Nati said...

Fantastic prize thank you! I am not very adventurous just yet as I am a new quilter, straight lines at the moment! thanks for the chance to win, maybe this is what I need to get started with loops!

hueisei said...

I am new to quilting. All I do usually is straight line quilting. I fail the free motion quilting. Maybe I should practice more.

Captain StitchyPants said...

I'm a pretty new quilter, so a lot of things feel adventurous to me! I've given FMQ a little try, but have yet to give it a go on an actual quilt. I have one basted and waiting for the time and space!

Catherine said...

I've only finished one quilt and it was basic strips. Now, I'm working on a hand embroidered quilt. Neither are adventurous, but I do daydream about giving curves a try one day.

Kristy @ Quiet Play said...

Oh I really struggle with the actual quilting part! I'm not very adventurous at all - always worried about mucking up all that great piecing I've just done!

Thanks for a great giveaway!

Amber said...

Sadly, quilting is my least favorite part of the quilting process. I'm not adventurous at all! Straight line quilting for me every time. I've been quilting for 3.5 years now--it's time to branch out!

I'm not very adventurous at all! I pretty much am a walking foot kind of girl--that's why this giveaway would be great!

I'm not adventurous but I have quilted six quilts on long arm and two only regular machine and I would like to try more.. Thanks or the opportunity to win.

tpott said...

I'm not adventurous at all, I'm the type that does it like the book. I wish I were a little wild, I rarely see outsde the box, unless someone points it out. ;-> I'd love to win this book, I bought a mid-arm Nolting machine and I still am soooo nervous using it. Thanks for the generous giveaway.

Katrin said...

I mostly do straight line quilting as I am too afraid to ruin my work. I have this book on my amazon wish list. Thanks!

knottygnome said...

i try to be adventurous with FMQ, but i don't do it all that often. i'm hoping to branch out more next year. and to do some more hand quilting as well.

Sarah said...

Its very cool that you have your work in a book already. Congratulations are definitely in order!

I'm definitely starting to get more adventurous with my quilting. I have a similar frame to yours (just 1 model earlier) and I've mostly done pantographs. Only one of my pantographs is purchased, the rest of are of my own design. I'm also starting to branch out into full free-form quilting, which is a bit of a challenge when you're still relatively new to quilting!

Thanks for the great giveaway opportunity!

Shannon said...

Hi! I've only been quilting for 1 year on my longarm. I just recently started to try more things on some of my small quilts. I really want to learn more free motion so I can get away from the back of the machine.

Kim said...

I haven't had any adventures in quilting yet! LOL I have my first quilt top waiting, but since it has redwork on it-I am not sure how I want to quilt it. I do want to learn to machine quilt, so I have this book on my wishlist!

vwlady said...

I have just started to quilt my own quilts after 30+ yrs of making them. I could really use this book! This ol'dog would like to learn new tricks! Thanks for the chance!

Johanna said...

I am usually sticking to straight line quilting because I am afraid of fmq. The first time I ever tried it the thread broke all the time and it was physically so trying to wrangle the quilt through the machine that I had to take a hot shower afterwards to relax a bit :)

tiffany said...

I'm very new to quilting, so I stick to straight lines. I'd love to move on to free motion, but I'm not there yet... my practices are scary! This book looks fantastic!

Sowing Stitches said...

When quilting...I jump and hang on tight....letting the quilt speak as I hand quilt everything in a fmq style. Using variety of quilting threads/colors as I go.

Not very adventurous...I do mainly heirloom type sewing but have recently started enjoying piecing. I mainly straight line quilt on my sewing machine. I would love to learn how to do more than that.

I am not adventurous as all. I am hoping one day to branch out but for now I am just doing straight line quilting.

Alison V. said...

I just started quilting my own quilts by machine and I really only do straight lines thus far!

I am slowly improving on my FMQ skills and I find that I am getting braver each time I do it. My last attempt was ribbons and bows.

Heather said...

This is a great prize! I'm so embarrassed to say, I haven't free motion quilted on my new machine since I got it! I bought the proper foot and never used it. Who knows what my hang up is, kind of ridiculous since my not so new machine is way better than my old one. When I did free motion quilt I stuck to mostly all over designs.

Unknown said...

this book has been on my wishlist! My husband is always encouraging me to try new free motion patterns, and I would love to expand my options!

Gill said...

I'm not very adventurous! I mostly do straight line quilting!

Tiffany said...

I've quilted 3 Queen/King sized quilts on my little home machine. How's that for adventurous?

Monica said...

I consider myself a semi-adventurous quilter when I have time. Thruthfully, I have the vast majority of my quilts quilted by others because it's a time issue. I've had a longarm for going on four years and it barely gets touched. Maybe this book could inspire me to turn on my machine!

Kaynik said...

I just took a free motion class offered through my quilting guild. It was so fun. At first I was so intimidated, but have branched out a bit more.
I haven't gotten too adventurous because I am new to it, but I am doodling like crazy to get better at it :-)

Kate said...

I have never tried free motion quilting, but have seen this book all over the internet as well as the rave reviews it has received!

Reb Thack said...

I tend to be daring with my piecing, but send my quilts out to be quilted... So I guess I'm chicken s**t to quilt myself! But I really want to learn!

Jennie @ Porch Swing Quilts said...

Not very adventurous at all. I have been doing a meandering loopy swirl thingy for a while, or straight-line. I made a Star Wars themed quilt for my oldest son this year, so I did try some stars. That was pretty awesome. I would LOVE this book!

Kate said...

I am still a verrryyyy beginner quilter so I am not very adventurous at all. But if my knitting or sewing are any indication, I'll soon be ignoring all directions to learn from my mistakes. :)

adriprints said...

My first quilt I just stitched in the ditch, but I've been working my way toward FMQing. I'm so close! I'm nearly done with the stitch in the ditch of my big quilt and nearly ready to start my first foray into FMQing. I'm thinking a meandering fan pattern of some kind over the disappearing 9 patches. Thanks for hosting this giveaway!

I have not finished many quilts so still lack confidence when quilting, I tend to just follow the seam lines. I have attempted FMQ but it was a steep learning curve!

I just finished a basic sewing class with our local sewing teacher a week ago. I've always been intimidated by quilting but after that class, I think it's time to explore it a little more. Thanks for the chance to win!

Most of the time I just do a channel quilting. Once I did some quilting that when you turned over to see the back it was a diamond that started out small and got bigger. Once I did do a loopy design. I really want to get better at free motion quilting.

Now that I have a great sewing machine, I'd love to finally try free motion quilting (for some reason my first machine simply refused to let me do it). The most adventurous of me was to quilt my nephews' names on their quilts, otherwise I usually stick to slightly wavy lines.

reasonably experienced quilter myself and I like trying new things. I am trying to learn to do more than basic FMQ so this book would be good.

Lia*s Handmades said...

I love to sew but if it comes to quilting I'm pretty unexperienced. My goal would be to really get the hang of freemotion quilting, but so far the only thing I've really managed to do is do swirls or leave shapes on a small piece of padded fabric. Handling a quilt under the machine? feels and sounds impossible, so this book would probably help me a tiny bit...

sandyandcosmo said...

I've been experimenting with bolder colors of quilting thread. Thanks for the giveaway.

I just started quilting, so I haven't had time to be adventurous. But overall I'm a middle-of-the-road girl when it come to adventure - not too risky, but I can't play it safe all the time either.

Ginka said...

Just joined your blog. Adventurous quilting, Hmmm, this is a tough one, I repaired my longarm with the dealer giving me instructions over the phone, changed the timing before and today I had to take the needle bar out get the dust off and put it back and set it with the machine timing. Whew, a good days work.

Tracey @ The Peony Teacup said...

I'm not super adventurous with my quilting.. I've experimented with FMQ a couple of times, but it depends how much time I have up my sleeve.. mostly my confidence tends towards straight line or stitch in the ditch quilting!

Kathy H said...

I am not very adventurous but would like to try to do more elaborate designs.

Katie said...

I am not very good at machine quilting so I dont' get very creative. I mostly stick to swirls... your example looks like it would be fun to try. I love this book.. I keep checking it out from the library and hate when i have to bring it back.

I love the look of gorgeous freehand quilting but it takes time to learn, and I always seem to be in a rush to get things finished. After the holidays I want to spend some time learning some new quilting designs and this book would really help. Thanks for the chance to win!

I am fairly adventures when it comes to quilting. before my first quilt I never read an article or a book about quilting. I just started off. I just learned how to quilt in October, so I haven't been very adventurous at all. I have been sticking to cotton squares! :)

in my quilting...well, the initial adventure was to move from hand quilting to machine quilting. I haven't progressed beyond stippling and straight lines yet. i want to!

I love to try new adventurous things with my quilting, but sometimes I get stuck on feathers over and over!

I like to create my own patterns most of the time if you consider that adventurous. When it comes to the actual quilting portion though, I have yet to be adventurous (though I want to be) which is why this book would be perfect for me. Thanks so much for the opportunity!

Hey Jill! Thanks for having an awesome giveaway! This book had been on my wish list for a while now - so I can become a better quilter and be more adventurous. I have only FMQ'd a few things so I would say I am not that adventurous - just a swoopy loopy kind of gal. As I get more comfortable I think I will branch out more. Thanks again! kat129(at)gmail(dot)com

I've been really trying to go out of my comfort zone with my FMQ this year and it's helped me improve quite a bit.

I don't consider myself overly adventurous, but I'm not afraid to just go for something either. Usually I stick to straightline quilting because I love it and it's easier for me. But, I'd LOVE to learn more about fmq designs besides my signature loop.

I just started quilting not too long ago, and don't consider myselft too adventurous yet! I have just ventured away from making quilts with my stash instead of all from one fabric line. I have never actually quilted one of my quilts, but have had my eye on this book for awhile now, and would love to use it to try out some quilting! Thanks!

looks like a great book I have been FMQ for 20 years and am going to get a sweet 16 in the next couple weeks. I frequently practice drawing on paper before attempting a new design or practice on scraps and turn the scraps into post holders or bags. FMQuilintg is the best part
