Book Review Thursday - 5/15

I guess I have been a little lax in reviews. I haven't been reading much and therefore haven't been thinking about books and the reviews that much.

Last month, I finished reading the latest novel in the Kay Scarpetta series by Patricia Cornwell:  Dust. A body is found on the grounds of MIT And Kay is dragged off of sick leave to investigate. The body is a woman who has ties to Lucy, Kay's niece, and the conspiracy theories begin running through Kay's mind. Add in Benton who is sharing information about similar murders when he shouldn't be and the theories grow exponentially.

I wish I could pinpoint where in the series the novels went from solving crimes to every murder being a way to bring in Kay to get at one of her loved ones. And Kay is focusing on Marino and the night that he attacked her years ago. Makes me wonder why Cornwell continues to keep Marino around. Surely she can write a new detective for Kay to train or spar with.

I always say that I am not going to read the next novel, but I keep hoping that Cornwell will get back to her roots and let the conspiracies go. From other reviews I have read on Amazon, not many people are enjoying the latest novels. I wonder if the new novels are a reflection of the legal battle that Cornwell went through with her money people and whether she felt like everyone was out to get her.

What are you reading?

I stopped reading these books years ago. When I started reading your review I was thinking, "Maybe it's time for me to pick these up again." But by the end, I realized I am probably right to not do so.

I'm re-reading Angels and Demons right now because I never read the third book in the series so I want to reread the first two before I pick it up.
