Girls Like Us Review

Girls Like UsGirls Like Us by Cristina Alger
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

FBI Agent Nell Flynn is on leave after being shot and back in her hometown to deal with the aftermath of her father's death. When a girl's body is found in local park, Lee, a local detective and old school mate of Nell's, asks her to join in on the investigation. The more Nell learns in the field and at her father's house leads her to question what her father had been doing in his last year of life and whether he was responsible for the girl's death.

The story is told with some flashbacks to show Nell's interactions with her mother and her father
while she was growing up. She starts to question her memories. I feel like Nell could be a great main character for a series if Alger wanted to go that route. There is a lot of angst and trauma in her past that would lead to some really good internal battles while being an FBI agent.

That being said, there were a couple of parts of this book that seemed a little formulaic. There were still a couple of things that surprised me and really added to the story, as well. I felt like the pacing of the story was great and the writing was done well. The characters were interesting and the story was good. I will definitely read another of Alger's book in the future.
