I'm shocked! I just read that Mark Lipinski is no longer going to be involved with Quilter's Home magazine and various other quilting resources.
I wonder what gives!I hope that this doesn't end up being a huge disappointment for me as I still have 9 months remaining on my current subscription. Argh!!

I spy....
Califon!!! Best Friends has gotten in Mark Lipinski's Califon line. It's gorgeous!!
I think that they would be awesome for a Courier bag!
Now what's this.... It's a quilt sample made up from Califon!
I turned again to see the wall of bag kits and the store's Brand X patterns....
They made up kits with Califon and only have a couple left.
Man, I am really going to have to buy the fabric to make another bag soon!!!

Florida - fabric purchases and another turtle
While I was in Florida, my parents took the time to take me to some shops. The first one we went to was Quilts 'N More. Dad was the driver and waited patiently while I shopped.
They had 20% off of their flannels and Halloween items and they had this panel done up with prairie points and I just *had* to have it!
Well, Max just couldn't resist walking across the panel...
I also got yardage of the black dots and a couple of fat quarters that I just couldn't resist. And the charm pack is for the prairie points. (Mom, remember - those are 5 inch squares!)
I got these 2 fat quarters to make a secret project. Now, I need a zipper. I wonder who this will be for....
They had this panel and I picked out the borders with help from mom. I can't wait to work on it! Mom is going to hang it in her house. She thinks bathroom, but once she sees it finished, it may be somewhere that is more visible to guests.

The colors are SOOO vibrant!!
As I was checking out, I saw a turtle. It was too cute! Then, I remembered that I forgot my camera! :( I had to take this picture with myhillbilly digital camera cell phone. It still a cute turtle though.
We went to a couple of other shops and I just got some miscellaneous cuts of fabric. I don't remember exactly which shops I bought these in, but we went to 3 other shops while I was in Florida.
Mom had made an attempt to do the area shop hop when they had it, but she only made it to one shop. She did buy the kit for the one shop's block and we really liked the colors. Mom also bought a pattern for a reversible, quilt as you go table runner so we bought some coordinating fabric so that I can make her a table runner.
And I got some fabric for Maddy and some more purples for my class in November. (EW, apologies for the out of focus picture! But I don't feel bad enough to try and take another one!)
I got a pattern for a designer that is new to me for a little something for a quilting buddy. I hope that he/she likes it!
Now, right before I left for Florida, I had gotten an unsolicited (read - I didn't mention his name in the post) comment on my blog from Mark Lipinski. I was very excited about it and told my granma about it when I was reading Quilter's Home magazine on the plane. Well, when we went to the shops, the workers would chat and ask questions and mom would ask them if they knew who Mark was and then say, "Cuz he comments on her blog!" How is that for pride??? he he he

For those of you don't read Mark Lipinski's blog (GASP! are there really any of you out there who don't???), he posted a link to this post about an award winning quilt. It's really quite funny and deserving of a ribbon, in my opinion!

Manic Monday?
Not really. Today was pretty low key for me. Work wasn't as hectic as it was last week. Or maybe it was and I just didn't let it get me down.
After work, I went to our monthly Guild meeting. We had 3 speakers. Two speakers work together to give quilt appraisals. For some reason, the speakers and microphone weren't working so we couldn't hear them very well and they kept trying to talk over the murmuring in the audience. I wasn't really impressed. I mean, I couldn't hear what they were saying and I was bored. I do think that appraising quilts is very interesting, but I have no idea what they look at and why even after this talk.
The last speaker was Meg Cox. She has a new book out - The Quilter's Catalog. Click here for a write up by the one and only Mark Lipinski. Now, I think that we can establish a trend here - if it has Mark's approval, it's a must have! I thumbed through the book last night and it looks pretty good and very informative.
After I got home and checked emails, the dogs wanted to go outside so we went. My neighbor, Aaron, was out and we started chatting. I asked him what all of the noise was over the weekend. On Saturday, there was some pounding in the basement of their condo that prevented me and the dogs from napping. And we heard it on and off on Sunday, too. He is putting in a sump pump and it is going in next to the wall that is common to me. He said that they had 6" of water in their basement because their drain clogged up during the big rain a couple of weeks ago. He also said that he is getting on the Home Owner's Association to re-grade the backyard because the yard slopes towards the house on our end of the building. He also said that the the next neighbor is putting in a sump pump, too, and that with the 2 of theirs that our building should not have any more problems with water. And he confirmed my thoughts about where the water was coming from - the cracks in the middle of the floor. That was where they could see theirs coming in.
Aaron also said that if there was ever anything that I needed help with to let him know and that he was usually around. I had asked him about a problem that I was having with an outlet in my bedroom, but Ryan took care of it when he was over helping with the carpet. Aaron asked about it last night and said if there was anything else that I should just let him know since he is so close. We also talked about the insulation that he added to their attic and he said that he could do that for me and it only cost about $300 and they could definitely see a difference. And they are looking at replacing the windows. I am going to have to get my taxes done and see how much is coming back and see if he thinks that we could get a discount if we got windows at the same time.
Well, this morning is my too much fun IT meeting so I have to get going to work. Tonight is a sorority meeting with people from other chapters to discuss this year's St Jude's Dream Home. I will have more information after our meeting.

An update ... Finally
I know that I left you ladies high and dry after posting a giveaway for my 200th post. Don't worry! I haven't forgotten about this! But I had some other things going on.
Thursday, I had a very long day! I was out of the house by 6:45 AM and didn't return until almost 10 PM. The little pups were twisting their legs big time! After work, I went to a Radiothon for St Jude Children's Research Hospital that a local country station was putting on. I worked from about 5:30 until 9. Friday, I went back after work and the whole thing was over at 7 PM. Last year, we raised around $250,000, but it also wasn't on Valentine's Day and there wasn't another radiothon going on at the same time.
Here is what the total was when the phones shut down last night:
For those of you who can't see the picture, that is $415,431! Amazing! The little girls in the picture holding the sign are sisters. The one on the right was treated at St Jude's and came to be on the air and share her story.
After I got home, I found a few envelopes in my mailbox. One smooshie was from Jen! Finally, something for me that I can keep! :) I got a name tag with Rosie the Quilter on it, a box of Godiva (this will be savored instead of eaten all at once because of the diet), 2 pairs of gorgeous earrings (I *love* them!), and a fabric panel of quilters. Thanks so much, Jen! This was a great pick-me-up!
Now onto the St Jude Quilt of Dreams Quilt Retreat . . .
I am guessing that the lack of deliveries this week is because of the weather and snow that we had earlier in the week that turned to ice and the mail carrier just didn't want to deal with boxes. I am OK with that. As long as the deliveries pick up next week! :)
This week, we got a box of DMC floss collections and pamphlets. We got so many collections, this will probably go in the gift bags so that everyone can have at least 1.
And, we got a 2006-2008 Quilter's Travel Companion! I may have to use it to track the quilt shops from here to Milwaukee!
And here is a picture that I took of myself after I was able to wash the Roseanne Roseannadanna out of my hair! I feel much better now! And the perm looks great!
Now, rumor has it that Mark Lipinski is wandering through our Prolific Online Quilters Blog Ring. I wonder who he is going to pick on next! Since there is so much chatter about his Quilter's Home magazine, I think that I am going to have to pick it up this weekend while I am out.

Let's just say that it will be a reminder of the spring that is coming soon! Hopefully! Right now, I have to get going to a friend's house to sew today. More pictures tonight!
