Stash Report Week 35, 2013

Another week and no changes. But for this week, that is phenomenal!

Yesterday, I drove down to Louisville to work the Cincinnati Modern Quilt Guild booth at the show. We also had some of our quilts in the show. Of course I left my camera at home so I could only use my phone.



I think this is the best picture that I have gotten of Fade to Red that shows the gradations in the colors the most accurately. The background is nice as well. :)

This lovely purple Featherweight was spotted at a vendor's booth.



And once I got home, I worked on the rest of the B blocks for Easy Street. I have the rest webbed and pressed and ready for the final piecing!

IQF Show goodies

Here are the goodies that I got at the IQF Cincinnati show last weekend.

I love these thimbles! Last year,  I think I got 2 and I wore one completely out. No one locally carries them. I got the last small one in the Gadgets booth at the show on Preview Night! :)



These bundles and fabric I got at Sewn on Friday when we shopped around the city.





And this is the haul from Fabric Shack.







And of course, the new HQ Avante'!



When I went back to the show on Saturday, I got this set of grippers for the HQ to lock the wheels for straight line quilting.



I stopped at the Superior booth for some Bottom Line thread and picked up a cone of So Fine. Marj was telling me that she uses the So Fine on her machine for the top thread so I figured I could try it out. If it doesn't work, I can always piece with it. :)





I also got some Aurifil 50 wt for the machine, too. It did so well on the Mega Quilter that it will have to be awesome on the Avante'.



And the newest Scrap Basket book. I'm hoping to find something in these books or the Schnibbles books to use my layer cakes and charm packs on. :)



It has been a while since I shopped and I might have gone a little crazy, but I am so thrilled with everything that I got! Now, if only the Avante will show up soon!!

Stash Report Weeks 14-15, 2013

Wednesday through Saturday, the International Quilt Festival was in Cincinnati and of course I did some shopping!

Sue, Marj, Carolyn and June drove up from South Carolina for the show and stayed with me. We met up at the Preview Night on Wednesday night and they went back to the show on Thursday while I went to work.

Friday, I took the day off work and we shopped our way around the city. Since it has been so long since I have been fabric shopping for myself, I went a little crazy!

I got several FQ bundles from Sewn and 4 free FQs as well.



And I got some yardage that was reduced in price and another charm pack to match one that I got a few months ago.



At Fabric Shack, I shopped in the tent sale and got a couple of lines that I had my eye on when they were first released. Circa 1934 and Cherry Christmas!



And I found charm packs of this line, but I didn't see any yardage to get it. I love the squiggly fabric on the top. Needles & Pins by Kanvas for Benartex.



I got a ton of pictures of the quilts and other goodies, but I will have to wait for another post to show those.

Cincinnati International Quilt Festival Starts Today!

Tonight is the Preview Night for the IQF show here in Cincinnati! I am meeting several friends at the convention center to walk through the show and the vendors tonight.

I'm very happy to share that my Spinnerei quilt will be on display in the Cincinnati Modern Quilt Guild's Modern take on the Dresden Plate block exhibit.





If you will be there tonight, look for me! And I think will be going Saturday as well to peruse the other quilts and pick up any little tidbits from the vendors that I might have missed. :)

Monthly Accomplishments - April 2012

I know that I am going to be surprised when I see everything that I got done in April. I don't feel like I did a lot because I was in a funk and my quilting mojo was absent.

1. Made blocks, assembled quilt, quilted and bound dog quilt for the SPCA auction. My co-worker who asked me to make the quilt won it at the auction for $100 and he gave it to his mom. I am happy to know that it went to a good home!
2. Attended the IQF show in downtown Cincinnati to see my quilt that was hanging in the Modern Quilt Guild exhibit.
3. Hosted Jennifer for a night so that she could attend the show with me. :)
4. Voted back on the board for the Homeowner's Association. It has been a very interesting ride both in prior year (since October) and the current year (not even a month).
5. Had a root canal. **SIDEBAR!!!** I have to say - I don't think that I have blogged about my recent issues with my teeth which started in December. As upset as I was at my dentist about a long term infection that I think caused damage to the jaw bone, I am so happy with the entire office and especially the dentist for putting me at ease about the root canal and my visits with 2 different periodontists in the Cincinnati area. I was facing a $3300 post insurance out of pocket expense for bone grafts on 3 different teeth and after I talked to my dentist, he called a different perio, explained his concerns and my concerns and the new perio came up with a different option that he thinks will work 100 times better than the bone grafts. The bonus is that the out of pocket expense for me is going to be so much less than the $3300. And the perk on top of that is that the new perio has a great sense of humor and I am actually excited to have the laser procedure done that he has recommended. OK, sorry about the sidebar here, but having this issue some what resolved has been a great stress relief for me!  **END SIDEBAR!**  lol
6. Worked a little more on the assembly of the second Scrap Squad.

8. Caught up a little on my blog posting with pictures of quilt shows and book reviews
9. Did my taxes - the first year for the quilting business taxes!

I also started reading a little more. I realized that I am behind on my normal reading routine and 10 books behind for the year so far.

See, not a very great month. But May is already starting out to be better than April and March!! And I did at least get the dog quilt finished in less than 2 weeks.

IQF Quilts

There were some spectacular quilts at the IQF show! It was fantastic walking around and seeing all of the quilts and designs and the quilting. Very inspirational!

Unfortunately, I can't show a lot of pictures on the blog because of this copyright craze and the fact that I didn't get all the quilt maker's information for each quilt that I took a picture of. There was a poster at the quilt show that Jennifer saw, but I missed it completely so I don't know all of the restrictions that they were insisting on.

I will show what I can and the rest are in my WebShots folder.

Here are a couple of pictures from the walkway above the show floor. All of the quilts were grouped together this year and I think that there were a lot more vendors this year than last year. Hooray!





Of course I have to show off this one again. The lighting over the quilts was pretty poor at this show. There are quite a few pictures where the quilts have shadows and mine is included in that. In this picture, you can't see that the first rows from the upper left are different colors because the lighting was centered on that spot.



Here is Barb's quilt. It looked awesome!



And the only other quilts from out of town that I got the quilt maker info on was the Artist Village. It was a large display of a village of houses made by different designers and it was pretty cool to see.











The trees in the village were very cool! Made with doily leaves!



There are more detailed pictures of the village in the album with the rest of the quilts. There are also some pictures of the same quilts several times because of the camera issues I had and taking pics on Saturday and on Sunday.

Florida Quilt Show

When I was planning my 2011 Florida trip, my mom wanted me to be there for a quilt show. When I started looking at dates for this past February trip, I searched to see if the show was going to be held again. It looks like there are 2 different guilds that do shows every other year on the same weekend so I was lucky enough to be in town for a show this year as well.

Yes, the show was almost 2 months ago, but I have a 'to do' list that I am working my way through!

A great idea for an I Spy quilt!



This quilt was very neat and the quilting (below) was fantastic!





There were several of these quilts, but I had to snap a pic of this one because of the turtles.





This quilt was part of the Hoffman Challenge and the quilter is from a city close to where I live. The quilting on it was amazing! I saw a lot of the same challenge quilts at the IQF in Cincinnati a couple of weeks ago.

IQF Excitement!

Friday night, Jennifer drove over from Indianapolis to go to the show with me and enjoy the excitement of the show. We went to dinner at the local Mexican dive and then hit the Dip for ice cream. I spent about an hour prepping for things to take to the show and making a list of things that I wanted to look for.

I showed her my red snappers on the frame and decided to look at my Bottom Line thread to see what colors I might need to replace. Of my 11 colors, I guess that I tend to use the neutrals the most.



And some of those a lot more than the others. They were all put on the list.



Saturday morning, we got ready, packed up lunches and headed down to the show. There was plenty of time to see some quilts before I had to report to work, but my camera didn't cooperate and I couldn't take many pictures. It put a damper on my fun, but it didn't ruin the day. I ended up removing the memory card and it helped so I took pictures at the end of the day.

When I was done working my first shift, Jennifer and I went to eat and chat and then headed in to shop. I remember shopping on Saturday last year and it was just crazy with people all over the place. Yesterday, I didn't feel crowded at all and we were able to zoom through the shops pretty quickly.

I found the Notions/Gadgets booth and picked up my favorite thimbles, a Havel's seam ripped and another pack of my favorite pins.



Then, I picked up a soothing massage pillow that will be awesome to use at retreats and after I push myself too long at the quilt machine.



Jennifer and I also tried out the heavy duty foot massagers in another booth and after a few minutes there, my feet were fantastic for another couple of aisles!

I picked up a sampler pack of a new thread, Konfetti by Wonderfil. If it doesn't work on the quilt frame, I can use it for piecing. And we got these adorable little bags with our purchase!



And the Bloc Loc people were there! Cheri told me about these squares in October and I hadn't seen them locally so I was happy to pick up the 5.5" square.



We stopped at the Handi Quilter booth and I visited the Avante machine. I'm so in love with the set up! I can't wait until I can upgrade. I got a DVD of the company and the machines and will probably watch it later this week and several more times until I can upgrade. :) And after we stopped there, we hit the Superior Threads booth and I picked up my Bottom Line. I stayed away from the King Tut and Lava threads because I haven't been having the best of luck with them in my Mega Quilter. Until I figure out what the problem is with the cones that I have, I won't add anymore to my collection. But I did get a new color - a pale pink.



All in all, it was a fantastic time! And I think that I am going to head back down to the show now to see all of the quilts that I missed. I think that the quilt exhibits were so much better this year and I need to remember that I can't work 2 shifts and shop and see all the quilts in one day!

But the inspiration that I got yesterday was enough to make me want to just stay home and sew all day today!
