Semi-quick update

The dogs and I are waiting for a load of laundry to get finished so that we can go outside and then get to bed. I figured while we were waiting on that, I would post a few updates.

A fellow blogger had a giveaway for Valentine's Day. She gave away 3 FQs and I won! Unfortunately, I can't remember which blogger or I would post that. (If anyone can refresh my memory, I will put her in and change my post.) Here is the FQ:

Update - Suzan let me know that the blog was Nancy's from Patchwork Penguin. Thanks, Suzan! And thanks for the FQ Nancy!

I also have been having some trouble with getting the correct tension on my bobbins through my machine. I was going to wait for my birthday, but I figured that I had a 40% off coupon, a gift card that I had gotten for Christmas and I was at a Joann's store, so I bought myself a Sidewinder bobbin winder. I have not decided what to name her (yes, it is a female because no male could do as good a job as she does with winding the bobbins - ie Bubba, the machine, can't do it!), but I am leaning towards Wendy. Any thoughts?

I also got all of the blocks assembled for my stash pot pie and I got all of the blocks laid out for row and top assembly. I am really liking the color combination and I can't wait to get it all put together. I will have to go to Joann's and pick a fabric for a border. The blocks are 3" finished so I will probably go with a 3.5" finished border. And I will try to find a multi-colored fabric.

I am on the committee at work for social events in our department. We had some money to burn before our year end so we decided to throw a pizza party. When we were thinking about when to have it in February, we thought of Leap Day because it only happens once a year and one of the guys said that it was also Superman's birthday so I said that we should have a birthday party for Superman. Well, everyone liked the idea and we really ran with it. One guy printed off a bunch of pictures of various Supermans and poses and we used them as decorations. He also did Superman trivia and I talked them into getting a cupcake cake. My sister gets them for all of the kids' birthdays and the cupcakes are great. Everyone was really impressed with the decorations - I told the lady we were doing a party for Superman and to put 'Happy Birthday Superman' on the cake and that was it. It was very yummy and everyone thought it was a good cake. Hopefully, we will get one again! We also had Superman napkins and plates and the table cloths were red, blue and yellow and everything coordinated quite well!

Yesterday, Judy and I took a class through the Quilt Guild. Pat Speth of Nickel Quilt and More Nickel Quilts fame was our instructor. She was very good! We learned quite a bit. She showed us some tips on sewing 4 patches and 9 patches and gave us instructions for a mystery block. The mystery block is in the next 3 pics - 2 different settings with the same block.

Here is Judy who sat next to me. We decided to take the class for our birthdays which are both this month.

Here is the start to my quilt. I am making the Sunny Lanes pattern from Nickel Quilts and I decided to name it Lovers Lane since I am using the Flirtations line by Moda. How cute is that?

Here is my first block completed. This is going to look very cool!

Well, I ahve a few more updates, but I think that is it for now. I have 2 weeks worth of donations to blog about. You gals will be excited! Well, only if you are going to the Retreat. You could be upset about the fantastic donations if you can't make it!

The quilt block is wonderful looking. The quilt will be a work of art when you complete it.

Let us know how much you like "Wendy" the winder.

Wendy... makes me think of Peter Pan... which is fitting since you are just flying through making quilts.
