Sock Knit Along Update - Day 4

I say Day 4 because I cast on my socks on Sunday. I think that I am making good progress! I spent an hour + last night knitting while holding Maxie and watching TV. It was very relaxing and low key which is what I needed after getting my flu shot at the office yesterday.

I cast on my first sock as usual with slipping the last stitches on each side over each other to make the loop, but I did the second sock according to the book - using the tail to make a double knot to close the loop. I wasn't too sure about closing the loop this way and I have since read that others cast on using different needles, made the loop by switching the stitches and then transferred the stitches to the circular needles. I will be doing this in the future.

I also had some issues with the needles and the yarn on the first few rounds just getting used to the technique of knitting 2 at a time. My biggest issue was with the 16" needle and I think that I would rather use 2 of the 24" needles, but now that I have about 1.5" knit, I am working better with the 16" needle.

You can follow Judy's progress on her blog. And I'd like to say thanks to Judy for giving me the push that I needed to try the new technique! :)

Looks great but I know nothing about knitting. Looks WAY too complicated for me!

Big congrats on taking the plunge with two socks! I don'thtink it was anything that you specifically did on the first few rounds - it's just a bit wimpy and fiddly until you get a little bit of 'history' with the cuffs (or toes!). I've been known to do two cuffs individually until about 1/2", then put them both on the needles.

Yes, they are looking good. I cast mine on last night and this morning took them off and started over so I'm on round 3. :) I use 2 24" circs because that's what I have. It works just fine. I really think we adapt quickly to whatever we are using. Can't wait to see more progress and hope you feel better.

I took my socks with me to the hospital thinking I could knit while sitting there. But Mom was having a good day and we visited instead. When I got back to the house and unpacked my stuff, I was too tired to even think about knitting. Maybe today. But right now it's not the most important thing on my agenda.

Yours are turning out great!

I tried knitting in the round - ONCE - horrible failure. Now I crochet. I think Maxie would like to see a sweater in the future - lol!
