I finally got to working on something new. I am participating in a mug rug swap with the Cincinnati Modern Quilt Guild and we are swapping the rugs on Wednesday. I figured that I should start working on mine today. This is what I have so far.
A bunch of HSTs that will finish at 1.5". As it is, the mug rug will end up being roughly 10" by 15". Is this too big? As I was sewing the first 5 rows together, I am thinking that this is just too big and that I should just take a few of the columns and make it 7" by 10".
I'm almost thinking that the size will make it look like a mug rug on steroids...
Or I could just trim the HSTs down to 1.5" so that they finish at 1" and still keep the integrity of my design. But that will mean a certain amount of ripping since I have already sewn some rows together. But I think that I would be OK with that.
Thoughts?
My Big Fat Dog Maisy thinks that bigger is most definitely better.

I really like that design of it. I'm not sure if there is any set size for those mug rugs. I saw one that was like 8x10 and one that was 10x14. I always try to see if they post the size of them on the blogs because I really don't know the correct size either.
I like the design. On the size, you are going to end up with something that's just a bit larger than an 8X11 sheet of paper. I would think that would be OK. If it looks like a placemat, that would probably be too big. That's probably not much help.
Depends on the size of the cookie plate that goes with the mug. LOL!
I think it'll be fine.
It's a bit bigger than there would be room for on my desk....but then again, my desk is always a mess.
I think it is too big. I love the color and design though. I think a size closer to 6.5x9 is a good size for mug and cookies.
I think any size would be fine. I love the design you have gone with and the colors are fantastic.
I don't know much about the size but I do love the design!!
Most of my coffee mugs are on steroids so I don't think the larger mug rug would be an issue, but I am one of those who would get 64 oz coffee at Starbucks if they had it :)
That's a perfect size for a placemat.
If you want it smaller, I would definately not cut down the blocks. I would divide them into two groups and use the same design with fewer blocks in each.
Oooh - so many teeny tiny triangles! They look great, but I agree it sounds like a placemat size.
I like how it looks and the size is good too!

I love your design, if it is too big you could call it a place mat.
Go for it... the larger size is great for a teapot and cup.
Afterall, some of us do make a pot of tea and that needs something underneath it. Or if it's warm, then it's the pitcher of ice water with the glass.
I need a large mug rug!

JILL I LIKE IT THE WAY IT IS, IF MY VOTE COUNTS. THAT WAY IF AS SOME OF THE OTHERS SAID IF THEY HAVE A POT OF TEA, OR A PICTURE, OF TEA, OR A PLATE OF COOKIES WITH THE DRINK THERE WILL BE ROOM FOR EVERYTHING. CANT WAIT TO SEE HOW IT LOOKS WHEN YOU GET IT DONE. HAPPY QUILTING....
I love what is on your design wall...
Ah, do whatever you want - it looks cool and the person who gets it will enjoy it as a mug rug, placemat, or small wall quilt!
Pretty pinwheels! They will be cheerful no matter what size you finish with. It seems more like a mini quilt than a mug rug to me but that's a wonderful thing too :)
maisy is cute!!
Looks a little big for a mug rug, but perfect for a placemat. ;0)
