Design Wall Monday - 7/7 - Quilt #28 - Snowflakes

I'm still catching up on the quilts I quilted during the month when I was blogging. :)

This quilt was quilted for Brenda and is the same pattern that I quilted last year for Jen in CT. Snowflakes!



I used a light tan Glide thread in the top and a matching Bottom Line in the bobbin. When I quilted Jen's, I remember having to fuss with the tension quite a bit, but I didn't have as many issues on Brenda's quilt. In spite of the panto, it was a breeze to quilt!









The quilting turned out well and the pattern is very lovely on the quilt.

Design Wall Monday - 6/30

Friday night, I went to Stitches for a Stitch In. There was a big group there and, while I was exhausted from all the late nights at work, I was able to assemble this Sew Together bag! The chatter from the ladies really helped me get through it. :)



I made this bag with scraps left over from the quilt that I made for my cousin for her high school graduation in her college colors - University of Ashland.



I made the outside of the bag out of HSTs and sewed it to a piece of poly batting. To make it easier, I made the bag a little larger to accommodate the size chevrons. And for the most part, the full chevrons remained in tact.

Design Wall Monday - 6/23

Friday night, I went to a stitch night. I took this background that I had made at the retreat in May and the pieces for the applique.



This photo is very washed out, but it was always the best that I could do with my camera.

I worked on tracing the applique parts out on the fusible.



That didn't take as long as I thought it was going to. It must have been the company and the chatting that made the time fly.

I pressed the fusible to the fabric, cut out the pieces and began laying out the design. I had numbered the parts on the paper and it ended up being like paint by number but with fabric.



And by the time we were ready to leave, I was done!



The color in this picture is much more accurate. I think the flowers help balance that out.

I am going to do some thread painting type work on the daisies, but I need to make sure I have the right color thread first.

Design Wall Monday - 5/19

Last weekend at the quilt retreat, I was able to finish one of the Sew Together bags that I had started back in January.

This is for my nephew who likes the University of Cincinnati.





And the inside is half red and half black. For the inside pockets, I put a black one on the red side, a red one on the black side and UC in the middle.



I think he is going to like it. :)

Quilt #19 - Navy Swoon

A week ago, I finished this Swoon for Michelle from one of my guilds. I used a new panto - Fascination - and it looks awesome on this quilt! I also ordered a Navy So Fine for the top and used a black Bottom Line for the bobbin.









The quilt was striking before the quilting and I think the quilting just enhances the quilt. As it should. :)

Quilt #13 - Split Nines

Without even realizing, I quilted one of my quilts in the unlucky #13 spot. I did have an issue with the placement of the panto in the second full row that overlapped a very small portion of the first full row. When the quilting for the entire quilt was completed, I ripped out the first row and the partial row and re-quilted and everything is good.

The pattern is a split nine patch in blacks and grays with the center offset a tad. I quilted it using the Dazzle panto and it was the first time I had used this panto and it is fantastic! I got the panto at Digitech where you can have them print the pantos at different sizes which is a great way to get ones that will be wide to fit your machine.

I quilted it with a medium gray So Fine and Bottom Line. It's a great combination!









On a side note - I am so thrilled that the grass and all the plants have greened up and I am happy to see that some of my plants are already thriving in the warmer weather!

Design Wall Monday - 4/7

Yesterday, in between quilting, I was able to get the rest of the borders on the bright batiks quilt.



This quilt is for a family wedding that occurred in February and I hope that the happy couple think that it is worth the wait.

The pattern is from Judy's website and is called Sunny Side Up. I started with the border fabric and another print that the bride picked out and I selected the rest of the fabrics from those. I added another column of blocks and made the outer border wider to show off the print and to make the quilt a double size.

Tonight, I will head to Joann's to see if I can find anything that will work for a backing. I already have the thread and panto picked out for the quilting.

Design Wall Monday - 3/3

Last night, I finished the second Sew Together bag for the fund raiser at work.



And the insides.





Now, I have to get back to quilting. :)

Design Wall Monday - 2/24

A successful weekend leads to a good Design Wall post. :)

I quilted this t shirt quilt. I still need to trim it up and attach the binding for some hand stitching. I worked on this Saturday in between all the cleaning.



Friday night and Sunday night, I worked on my Halloween Spooky Sampler from The Frosted Pumpkin. Loving this! Since this picture, I am almost to the bottom right corner.



And I finished 6 more blocks for the wedding quilt. The pattern is a free one from Judy's site. Just 8 more blocks to make!

Design Wall Monday - 2/10

Well, I soldiered through and got the Disappearing Nine Patch blocks made into a quilt top. I got the idea for the quilt from this blog post.

Last Monday, I had most of the blocks on the wall and I wasn't too thrilled with it.



I left it for a few days and came back and started to move things around to group the neutral into something resembling diagonal rows.



A few more adjustments and I sewed the center together and then dug through my fabrics for border options. I was sure that I had enough for the light pink as a border and the dark pink for binding and possibly an inner border. After posting on my FB page and Instagram (@darlingjillquilts), it was almost unanimous to use an inner border.



I sewed and sewed and sewed while watching figure skating...



And now have a finished top and binding!





And now I have to move on to the next quilt. :)

Design Wall Monday - 1/20

So many things going on right now...

Yesterday, I made this Project Book to hold my cross stitch supplies.





I also made the top for a weighted blanket.



I am finishing a test on these pellets in the dryer to be sure they are safe before I continue on the blanket. I got these from eBay.



Also in the dryer with the pellets is the last piece of flannel for the backing for the t shirt quilt.



And I cut some fabric for a disappearing nine patch.



And I still have these blocks to finish up with.



Hopefully I can make some progress this week! :)

Design Wall Monday - 1/13

I finally got the center portion of the t shirt quilt assembled. This week, I will work on cleaning up the sides and the bottom and putting on a skinny border.



I'm so ready to work on something that doesn't have partial seams! Or interfacing! lol

There are a lot more projects for me to work on and I am ready to move on to the next.

Design Wall Monday - 12/30

I finished these super cute Sew Together bags last week for Christmas presents!

This one was for my sister.





And with all the zippers open.



And this one was for my niece. I had to piece the outer fabric because the foxes were directional.

I forgot to take pictures at my house with the nice camera so all of these pictures are with my iPhone. Under my aunt's Christmas tree. :)

And now, I think it's time to make one for myself. Woot!
