Made a boo boo

I got an email a couple of months ago from a quilter who said that she loved reading blogs where the writer showed mistakes. She liked to see that even experienced quilters can make mistakes.

The first project that I worked on this week was the pillow shams for my granma to go with her quilt. I got the first sham done without any issues and set out to make the second one. I got everything sewn and pressed and laid out to take the pictures and this is what I got.

ARGH!!! I sewed the last seam wrong. UGH!!

After dinner and then a bit of ripping and re-sewing, I got it fixed!

So even experienced quilters can make boo boos!

I'm a big believer in lay it out, check it twice before you sew the seam! I really hate using my seam ripper.

The pillow shams came out great!

so are you calling yourself an experienced sewer? just kidding
I think with our blogs we are in a way sharing our talents with others. Showing mistakes and fixes and design decessions helps us all learn and grow (and sometimes giggle) Can you imagine how much film would have been used up when I first started quiting if I documented my progress like we can do now with ditigal?
we come a long way Baby!

I think seams like this just mean it is time to stop sewing for the day. At least it was a pillow sham and not the quilt!

Lois is right, we all have to stay humble somehow.

When I first started, I simply idolized anyone who had been quilting for 10+ years.....now that I AM one of those 10+ years quilters, I simply shake my head and think...."psht! I'm gonna make boo-boos until I leave this world!" Boo-boos happen....and we get mad. And depending on how long we've been at the machine for the day, the level of "madness" varies from "awh, poo!" to "*#&^*!(&*^ I GIVE UP with Quilting FOREVER!"

;0)

Thanks for sharing, and I'll certainly post my boo-boos as they are made, too! ;0)

Well, we all make mistakes and it doesn't matter how experienced we are. That's why we have seam rippers in the first place...People were making so many mistakes in their sewing that there was a "need" for the seam ripper. I usually catch my mistakes and can correct them pretty easily but I posted a picture of a quilt a few months ago and one of my readers said, uh, are you sure that's how that was supposed to be? Alot of times, I take a picture and see my mistakes then when I'm looking at the pics. Anyway, your shams are beautiful and they will look great with that big, blue beautiful quilt of your Grannie's. I love them all. congrats on the finishes!

Sometimes the only way that I see a mistake is from looking at the picture of what I think is the finished project! At least it was an easy fix.

i sometimes don't see errors until I take the photo - when I am doing newsletters I also don't see word errors sometimes as the letters start to just make no sense on the page when I look at them too long. So glad you saw it now - and it was not an "after I quilted this I found the error" type mistake!!! you got TONS done this week - awesome vacation!!!
