Book Review - Silence for the Dead

I am just about through all of Simone St. James' novels having just found her a year or so ago. She writes with a bit of supernatural mystery in her novels and I have thoroughly enjoyed them!

Silence for the DeadSilence for the Dead by Simone St. James
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Kitty Weekes is running from her past in post WWI London. She decides to pass herself off as a nurse in Portis House, a hospital for soldiers who are suffering mentally after the war. But in spite of the remote location and structured days, the men don't seem to be getting any better. And that house seems to be exacerbating the symptoms each day that passes. Kitty starts asking questions about the previous inhabitants of the house, but no one seems to know where they went or what happened to them.

Another great novel by Simone St. James, in my opinion. The creepy house, the history of the family comes into play, there are answers about what Kitty is running from eventually. Kitty is scared of her past coming back, but she is a strong main character and steps up when she needs to in spite of her lack of nursing training. And when she does find allies in some of the male patients, they do not swoop in to rescue her as she is holding up quite well on her own.

For anyone who enjoys a bit of supernatural stories every now and then, this is a good one to add to your list!
