On Sunday, when I was at the shop with my Girlzzzz (Barb and KT... HOLLLLLAAAAAAAAA!!), I put my SIS quilt on the wall for a picture and then pulled out the backing fabrics that I wanted to piece for it. They both laughed hysterically and called it ugly fabric and said why on earth would I put that on the back.
After I stopped crying long enough to hide the fabric back in my bag, I decided that I would ask you, dear blog readers, what you thought of it.
Here's the quilt top again.
And here are the 2 fabrics that I planned on piecing for the back.
Although the flowers are not what one might call a 'pretty fabric,' the fact is that it has grown on me with it's bright, vibrant colors. And the green goes really well with the floral, but it is definitely what I would call an ugly, unloved color. I would be very hard pressed to find something in my stash to match with this green. Seriously!
Anyway, in the interest of stash BUSTING, I got both of these fabric from my stash and would be happy to use them on the back of this quilt. There is just enough of both to finagle just enough of a backing for this quilt. And since I plan on keeping this quilt for the time being, I will be able to enjoy both the top and most of the backing. :)
So, Dear Readers, my question for you is... Would YOU use these 2 fabrics on the back of this quilt???
Maisy says...
"We got any more of these bones???"
PS - this is post 989. Can you tell that I am excited to get to 1,000 for the giveaway? :-D
*ETA - the floral DOES have green in it - the stems of the flowers are various shades of green. And the flowers are yellows, oranges, reds, purples, etc. And this is JUST for the backing... Does anyone really see the back anyway??? lol
UPDATED 10:28 PM - OK, I give up. I will find something else to use... *sigh* lol

awwwww...I'm so sorry they laughed :-( First...I LOVE YOUR QUILT!!! I'm one to use up fabric that I already have...well for the last two years anyway. I really think if you piece the "back" creatively but an easy design and treat it like another quilt top...your choices will work wonderfully. Gook Luck!
Sorry, Jill, but I'm with them. Do something else :-).
It is hard to tell from the picture, but I trust your judgment. The purplish might seem odd at first, but there must be a reason, and a good one, that you picked it in the first place. You are not such a dedicated stash-buster that you would do it for no reason other than that.
I would say depends on how you want to piece them together. Two big rectangles - not so much - but a bit more "designed" and yeah... works for me!
If you're going to sew them together side by side, it might not look so right, but if you did something creative like Quilted Quickies suggested, I think it would be ok. You have to have the final say. It is your quilt.
love ya!
Michelle
I don't think the fabrics are ugly - but I don't think they're right for that top. TOO clashy - and I, for one, would be bothered knowing the backing clashed with the top. (And I ALWAYS look at the backs of quilts.)
Uh, no! Go stash diving! There's gotta be something else lurking in your stash room! If not, I'll go stash diving in mine for you! Sorry....... this isn't what you wanted to hear, right? :) xox
Say goodbye to that ugo fabric already!! Hey, you know I don't mince words.
Plus, good quilting friends don't let each other use ugly fabric! Me and KT were just looking out for your best interest.
As always,
HOLLLLLLLAAAAAA!
I'm sure that whatever you end up going with will be fine. I'm doing a baby quilt now that my family does not like at all!! They are all up in my business hating on my green fabric that I thought was so pretty!! Oh well, I already started handquilting so too bad!
I am of 2 mines...LOL...on the one hand, I say go for it with the fabrics you've chosen for the back....make the back into a quick design and the quilt could then be reversible.....on the other hand, I'd go with a color more suited with the front....some sort of green maybe.....did I just confuse you??? If so, don't listen to me....listen to your heart. Do what you really want to do...You'll be happier that way!
If you are happy with it then go for it. I would probably do 4 quadrants at minimum to add interest.
I have a teal quilt in progress that I will be putting a different green on the back. If you look at my stash pick it is the green on the top of the chair. They don't necessarily go together but each side is pretty. The binding will make the bridge.
Any friend that can make you cry is a good friend. Too many people lie to us, I would rather have one laugh in my face then behind my back. Keep your two fabrics for another project. Look again for 1/2 dozen creams/tans/greens and piece a huge 16-patch or something fun for the back. You will be glad you did. Beautiful top. cw
Hmm...I agree with Michelle...just not right for this quilt. I think a solid would look best. AND I love, love, love this quilt. You did a great job on it.
OK, don't kill me, but I have to agree with everyone else. It just doesn't "go" with THIS quilt top. I'm sure you'll be able to find something else to work. ;0)
