Stash Report Week 25, 2014

Last weekend, I took several classes at Stitches, the local shop where I bought my HQ Avante. They had an HQ educator in for classes on fills, rulers, finishing quilts... The teacher was fantastic and the classes were amazing! I learned so much and I am ready to start branching out with my quilting!

To that end, I left the shop with a few tools... A Handi Light that plugs into the USB plug on the machine and it is now clipped onto my handles and waiting for it's first chance to be used. The Handi Grips that are clear sand paper for the backs of rulers. And the half circle templates and a longer straight edge ruler. I am set!

101_2837

And I picked up a couple more on my way home. Sheet protectors and dry erase markers to start drawing out some designs.

101_2839

I need to get busy on some small projects so that I can start practicing!

And since the classes, I have been busy quilting on the batiks wedding quilt and finishing a wall hanging top and cutting out 3 more Sew Together bags. Nothing that I can really show right now, but it's exciting to be moving forward on a couple of things!

Stash Report Weeks 21 - 24, 2014

I can't believe that I took a four week break from blogging. This might be the longest break that I have ever taken from blogging. Not much has been going on.

Last month's cross stitch night had adorable favors and gluten free and dairy free goodies for Becky's birthday.

http://photos-h.ak.instagram.com/hphotos-ak-xpa1/925249_1416999541910007_830828702_n.jpg

And I have been stitching on my Halloween Spooky Sampler and making great progress. Maybe that is all that I have been doing in the past month. lol

Displaying photo1.jpg

I have used a little fabric for the backing for one of the wedding quilts. It's on the frame right now about half done.

I have brought in a bit of fabric in the last week - some for client quilts and some for quilting samplers. I'm counting it all though and I will count it in the next week or so when it is busted.

Stash Report Weeks 19 - 20, 2014

Just like my book review posts, I have been slacking on my stash report. Last week, I was at Shipshewana for a retreat and when I got home around 3, I was too pooped to unpack and report. :)

While at retreat, I worked on a couple of projects that were in the works, but I didn't get as much done as I had wanted to.

I finished the pillows to go with the batiks wedding quilt.

I also worked on the wall hanging for another wedding quilt. I still have a bit to prep for applique on this quilt, but I am happy to have gotten this far.

I am ready to start 2 new large quilts and I also have several Sew Together bags ready to cut out and complete. I hope that by the end of May, I can have a bit more busted.

Stash Report Week 18, 2014

This week, nothing came in, but I got a bit busted. I needed to make the monogram square for the signature quilt for the wedding next weekend. I handed it off to the bride and groom in this state and I will satin stitch the letters and numbers down when I get everything back. I didn't want to rush the satin stitching since there are so many curves.

Stash Report Weeks 16-17, 2014

I'm back!! I haven't posted in two weeks and there has been a lot going on what with recovering from a retreat, stressing about car trouble, working my full time job and quilting a bunch.

I quilted the black and gray split nine patch a couple of weeks ago and got the final stitches in the binding this morning. That busted 2 yards for the backing. This might be my new favorite panto. I will post more pics of this quilt later.

Dazzle panto

I also got the backing for the bright batiks quilt and the 2 pillow tops I made at retreat. This was 3 yards of an extra wide from Fabric.com.  It's not a perfect match, but it is pretty close and the print is pretty great!

Stash Report Week 14, 2014

One of these weeks, I am going to bust a ton of stash!!

This week, I only got one border on the batik quilt. I worked late 4 nights an by the time I got home, I had zero energy to work on anything.

Once this border is finished, there are only 2 borders left. Woot!

In the past two weeks, I have only busted a bit of fabric on the Sunny Side Up quilt from Judy's site. I got the first border and a part of the second one on the quilt. I am running out of the neutral which is going to be a problem for the extra projects that I had in mind.

Stash Report Week 11, 2014

Yesterday, I met up with a couple of distant cousins to shop for fabric for a wedding quilt. It was so nice to see Sally and to meet Gretchen and it was great to catch up a little. We shopped at Sewn and picked out the fabric and the design specifics for the quilt.

Gretchen decided on a palette of creams and tans and we went with Bella solids for everything except the cream. The cream is a Kona and it's slightly speckled and all the fabrics look lovely together!

I also got some fabrics for a couple of projects that I am keeping secret for now. :)

Stash Report Week 10, 2014

I just got home from a weekend quilt retreat and it was a great time! I have some busting to report!

One accomplishment yesterday is the outside to another #sewtogetherbag #chevrons #ohcraft #darlingjillquilts #grailvilleisforsewing

I made a sheet of chevron for an upcoming bag.

And I finished the center for this wedding quilt. I made all of the blocks on the left side of this picture and since I left most of the instructions at home, I had to make the blocks from my memory and a ruler on the previous blocks. But it turned out well!

Center of the quilt is finished! I added another row at retreat after I sewed the rest of the center together and realized it was too skinny. #ohcraft #darlingjillquilts #grailvilleisforsewing

Stash Report Week 9, 2014

This week, I made a Sew Together bag and used a bit of fabric in that.

I bought a bit of fabric. I needed the green for another Sew Together Bag that I will make today. The black is extra wide for the backing for the gray and black quilt. I'm hoping I can get that busted this week, too.

Not too much done this week. I spent quite a bit of time at work for a software upgrade that went live yesterday and I am happy to be done with that! I have since been cleaning at home and trying to rest a little.  :)

This past week, I started making star blocks for the wedding quilt that I am working on.

Next step in the #batiks #quilt is star blocks. First one made this morning! #ohcraft #darlingjillquilts

Here is how things are going to look when the blocks are done.

I'm making some progress on projects this week. I got 2 quilts quilted last week and made progress on two of my own yesterday.

The split nine patch was laid out and I started assembling the rows. I'm hoping to finish that and get the borders on today.

I also made the nine patches for the disappearing nine patch. I still need to press and cut most of them.

Stash Report Week 4, 2014

It has been a great week for stash busting!

I bought a little black flannel for the t shirt quilt backing and I used it immediately. I now have the t shirt quilt and the 4 witches' boots wall hangings ready for quilting.

I'm still keeping the Fabriholics Anonymous challenge in my head and I haven't bought any new fabric this week! Woot!

I have been working on projects and made some progress!

I finished the top of the t-shirt quilt and made the binding and started on the backing. I need a bit more of the black flannel for the backing.

101_2494

And then I made this quick cross stitch frame cover. The pattern is from this blog post. And my cross stitch is coming along. It is Gingerbread Lane from The Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery.

Today I am heading to Barb's for a sewing day and I have lots of projects from my list going with me. I hope I can spend some time cutting and some time piecing and sewing!

I've been working on the t-shirt quilt all week and have only used a bit of fabric for it. I am so close to being done and then will put a border of black on it.

101_2476

I did pick up a bit of fabric for some projects. As part of the Fabriholics Anonymous challenge, these were OK purchases for me to make projects that I bought some fabric for in December.

101_2478

And I got fabric to make a weighted blanket for a high school friend. She is paying for the materials so this doesn't count against my challenge either, but I am still counting it in my stash report.

Stash Report Week 1, 2014

Woo hoo to starting off a new year and having a fresh beginning!!

I shopped on New Year's Eve and got 1 yard of fabric to start a new project for my nephew's so I ended 2013 at -117.37 yards. I've been tracking my stash usage for a few years now and here is how 2013 stacked up against the prior years.

2009 usage -178.21
2010 usage -101.93
2011 usage -61.15
2012 usage 36.06
2013 usage -117.37

This was my second worse year since I started keeping track, but I think from my 2013 finishes it is clear that I am not sewing on my own projects nearly enough.

This year, Kara has challenged some friends to not buy any fabric for six months. She also found some other bloggers who have started a Fabriholics Anonymous challenge.

FabAnon

For my rules, I am going to allow myself to buy the B's - backings, borders, bindings and backgrounds. Basically anything that I need to finish a project.

And I am going to work on my UFOs. And to work on my UFOs, I am going to have a UFO parade on my blog sometime in the next week or so. This means that I will have to pull out all of my UFOs and take pictures to show on my blog and will probably create a huge mess in my studio. But it must be done!

Stash Report Week 52, 2013

I got a bit of sewing done for Christmas so there are some busts to report.

I made a Snuggie out of the 4 yards of fleece, but I didn't get a picture of it since it was a last minute finish and I needed to get to the celebration.

I got the backing made for the Road to Llano quilt and got it quilted. I am still stitching the binding down.

101_2459

And I made a couple of Sew Together bags. I will post more pictures of these later this week.
