We Interrupt This Program.....

Monday night, I was still working off the momentum from the weekend and I got a pair of strip sets cut for the 9 patches for my Granma's quilt. I was hoping to get another pair cut last night, but circumstances have a way of changing plans....

My water heater finally went out and water was flowing freely on Tuesday morning. Since I have moved in here 9+ years ago, most of the major things have been replaced - the kitchen appliances, both bathrooms, the kitchen floor, the furnace and A/C and the windows. I figured that the water heater was coming up because it was original to the house and 25 years old.

I'm very lucky that there was nothing in the way of the drain and that the drain was draining and therefore no water damage. When I realized what was going on, I tried to turn the water off to the heater, but the valve was stuck in place. I called my neighbor and he told me to shut off the water to the condo and where that was and when I started turning that valve water started dripping from that. I eventually got it shut off and he came over to turn the water off to the water heater so I at least had water in the house. Very, very cold water, but water nonetheless! He said that he would be able to replace the water heater that night.

I cleaned up as best I could and made me way to work so as not to use and time off. I left a little early so that I could be here when Aaron was ready to work. I ended up stopping at Home Depot to get a new shower head and I stopped to look at the water heaters to get an idea of the cost and he walked by so I was able to give an input on purchase. While he got the plumbing accessories that he would need, I ran to the paint area and picked up some paint chips for my upstairs bathroom and master bedroom. Talk about multitasking!

We headed back to the house and he got to work and in about an hour and a half, he replaced the shut off valve and the water heater! He also showed me how to change the temperature of the water in the tank so that I can kick it up when I have house guests in hopes that we can all have hot showers. He also showed me how to flush the tank to remove the sediment once a month.

Here's the new shut off valve to the house - the top one that is orange. Can you see how yucky the old one is?

And the new water heater. Ain't it purty?

Once he was done in the basement, Aaron ran to the second floor and attached this Waterpik shower head. It has 5 different settings and I am anxious to try it out! :)

I'm so lucky to have such a great neighbor right next door who was able to help me out! Although, I did tell him that if my dad still lived in the city, the water heater would've been installed before I got home from work. He laughed and said that he can only do so much! :-D

The pups were also very happy that Aaron was in the house. He is their buddy and gives them attention and they eat it up!

Maisy couldn't stop grinning all night!

You are blessed. It is hard to find someone who is there, willing, and able to help. So glad your water didn't cause any major catastrophes.
Have a great day!

Bummer about the water heater but wow 25 years old? We had to replace ours this past spring too and it was only 13 years old. In hindsight, it probably should have been replaced a few years ago!

Maisy sure does look happy. I guess there is never a good time for a water heater to go out, but it sounds like everything is fixed again without too much of a headache. What color are you going to paint?
