Book Review Thursday - 12/29

Just one book to report this week. Not enough time spent reading because I was trying to get too many things done. And I think that this weekend will be dedicated to sewing and watching movies that are checked out form the library. :)

I decided to listen to one of the books that I have in my queue that was Christmas related and this was the first one in the list. It was a recommendation from my library, I think.

In An Amish Christmas by Cynthia Keller, Meg Hobart is living the American dream – married to James, her college sweetheart who is a successful businessman; mother to 3 wonderful children; and the perfect house in Charlotte, North Carolina. Except that her husband has become moody and she has grown tired of running her life through To Do lists. Then on Thanksgiving, her husband announces that he lost his job 3 months ago and he lost all of their money in a scam. All the family has left is the Mustang and everything that they can fit into it.

The family sets out in the overflowing Mustang to stay with Meg's parents who are less than thrilled to have to help the family pick up the pieces of their lives. On the trip north, they drive through Amish country in Pennsylvania and James hits a telephone pole to avoid hitting a horse and buggy. The Hobart's are then taken in by the Lutz's until the car can be repaired. And the kids have a culture shock.

This was a pretty good book, but it was a little slow to start. I think there were too many chapters dedicated to leading up to the Thanksgiving Day reveal. And I was a little shocked at how badly the older kids behaved, but so was Meg in the book. Overall it was an OK book and everyone learned something by the end.
