OMG - April Goal

I set up a One Month Goal for February (actually, I had several goals!), but I missed posting an update. And I totally skipped March because there has been too much going on at home for me to get any sewing done other than getting to the quilt shop for my classes.

Here were my February Goals with results.

1. Work on t shirt quilt for Aunt Donna - I have cut the shirts apart and fused the interfacing to all of the shirts. This month, I will finish this!
2. Quilt 4 personal items - I haven't quilted any personal items in the last 2 months.
3. Declutter 3 areas - Done out of necessity with my brother moving in.
4. Sock Monkey HSTs (because they will need to be packed up if not assembled into a top!) - The blocks were laid out!

Not too bad. Not too great either.

A lot of big items have been ordered for the kitchen repairs. The first big item goes in next week - upstairs carpet. This is also wreaking havoc on my quilting and piecing because all of my projects and fabric and totes have to be moved out of my studio to give the carpet layers as much room as possible to lay the carpet cleanly and evenly.

BUT I am excited that I have a quilt retreat this month and am already batting around ideas of what I will take to work on.

So my April OMG is to make the monkey blocks! If I have to put them away, at least the blocks will be made for storage.

This is what the block will look like. Some are in strips and pressed and just need to be sewn into rows. Some are still HSTs laid into the block pattern.

There are enough blocks for a couple of baby quilts. Or maybe 3 or 4. I can't remember.

Busy Saturday!

Saturday was the companion class for the Deb Tucker ruler BOM. This month we got the Tucker Trimmer and our class was Solitaire.

My partner in crime, Tina, had all of her blocks made before class and came to assemble her quilt. I got 2 blocks made and she got the center of her quilt assembled. The top was done by the end of the night!

I, on the other hand, went with these people .... me, my niece, my niece's friend, and my sister....

To see this Broadway in Cincinnati show...

This was one of my favorite movies to watch when I babysat and I was excited to see the live production. It was very interesting to see how it was adapted. And we all had a great time going to dinner before the show and then a modern art display on our way back to the car!

I have 3 more shows to see in this season and I am very excited about all of them!

BOM and quilt class

The last time I posted was the day of my first BOM. This Saturday, is a quilt class using the ruler from the BOM class 10 days ago. It's about time that I share some pics!

Tina, my partner in crime who is taking the BOM and classes with me, had her block made by 8 PM the day of the class. Over achiever! lol

This is the fabric kit that the shop was offering and Tina and I got the same color variation - speckled white background and bright fabrics.

After seeing another friend's finished block the next day (seriously, they make me feel like a slacker!!), I decided that I needed a black for my background.

I chose an old fabric from my stash - Water Drops by P&B Textiles.

And here is my finished block. It was so easy with the Deb Tucker ruler, the Tucker Trimmer!

This Saturday, we taking the Solitaire class to get  more familiar with the Tucker Trimmer. The pattern is a Card Trick design with 4 colors and a background. I am trying to use fabrics from stash and had the pink and purple. I matched it with the light mustard and green from the shop. I figured that I would see what background would work between gray and black.

I think the black is the clear winner! Time to get the fabric cut for class!

Productive Evening

Last night, I made progress on the stars quilt and I started to make a Sew Together bag to donate to a work fund raiser,

Here is the quilt on the design wall. I still need to disperse the colors around a little. The pattern is a free one from Judy's site.

I need to rearrange the stars to disperse the color, but the #quiltblocks are done! #quilting #ohcraft #darlingjillquilts

Once those were on the wall and out of the way, I started the Sew Together bag. This is the fourth time I have made this bag and it is definitely easier. I got the fabrics cut and just over halfway through the pattern in about an hour.

Design Wall Monday - 2/24

A successful weekend leads to a good Design Wall post. :)

I quilted this t shirt quilt. I still need to trim it up and attach the binding for some hand stitching. I worked on this Saturday in between all the cleaning.

Still waiting on my thread order from last week so I loaded the t shirt #quilt for my cousin. #ohcraft #darlingjillquilts

Friday night and Sunday night, I worked on my Halloween Spooky Sampler from The Frosted Pumpkin. Loving this! Since this picture, I am almost to the bottom right corner.

I should be sewing or quilting.... #thefrostedpumpkinstitchery #halloweensampler #crossstitch #ohcraft

And I finished 6 more blocks for the wedding quilt. The pattern is a free one from Judy's site. Just 8 more blocks to make!

Two more colors and 8 more #blocks to make for this #quilt #ohcraft #darlingjillquilts

Stash Report Week 8, 2014

Not too much done this week. I spent quite a bit of time at work for a software upgrade that went live yesterday and I am happy to be done with that! I have since been cleaning at home and trying to rest a little.  :)

This past week, I started making star blocks for the wedding quilt that I am working on.

Next step in the #batiks #quilt is star blocks. First one made this morning! #ohcraft #darlingjillquilts

Here is how things are going to look when the blocks are done.

Stars started

Today, I started working on the stars for the bright batiks quilt. I made one before work to check the measurements for cutting the strips and then finished the other 2 a few minutes ago.

Next step in the #batiks #quilt is star blocks. First one made this morning! #ohcraft #darlingjillquilts

And here is how it will start playing out. I am going to have 5 different colors of stars.

These stars are orange in spite of the color in the picture. :) When the rest of the stars are made, they will be spread throughout the quilt and not clustered in the color groups.

Stash Report Week 5, 2014

I'm making some progress on projects this week. I got 2 quilts quilted last week and made progress on two of my own yesterday.

The split nine patch was laid out and I started assembling the rows. I'm hoping to finish that and get the borders on today.

I also made the nine patches for the disappearing nine patch. I still need to press and cut most of them.

Design Wall Monday - 1/20

So many things going on right now...

Yesterday, I made this Project Book to hold my cross stitch supplies.

101_2502

101_2503

I also made the top for a weighted blanket.

101_2504

I am finishing a test on these pellets in the dryer to be sure they are safe before I continue on the blanket. I got these from eBay.

101_2506

Also in the dryer with the pellets is the last piece of flannel for the backing for the t shirt quilt.

101_2494

And I cut some fabric for a disappearing nine patch.

101_2501

And I still have these blocks to finish up with.

101_2499

Hopefully I can make some progress this week! :)

Design Wall Monday - 12/16

I am trying to squeeze some of my projects in between all the quilting that I have been doing. I have had these witch boots in progress for 2 or 3 years now and I am ready to be done with them.

The pattern calls for the blocks to be set 3 by 3 with the 2" frames around each block. Then, a skinny black border and then a piano key border. I think that the centers are large enough as they are so I am just going to put a black border on them and then bind with the black stripe.

101_2425

I think that this will be just enough and it should be quick enough for me to get them done in short order.

If I can only find some time to work on them. :)

Friday Snow Day

Yesterday, with the big snow storm heading out way, I decided to play the wuss card and I worked from home all day. I was super productive working without the distractions usually encountered in the office and I hope that I can do more! It's so nice to be able to get work done and relax a little in the comfort of my own home!

Before I logged on, I watched a bit of news and did a little piecing on the Split Nine Patch blocks.

Photo: A little morning sewing on this cold and wet day. I'm working from home today so I had extra time before I had to log in. #ohcraft #darlingjillquilts #quiltblock

After I worked, I quilted on this photo quilt.

Photo: #quilting the next one. #darlingjillquilts #ohcraft #hqavante

After I got the quilting done, I went back to my blocks. I now have 19 blocks done and I need 48 for the layout. Not too bad!

And here is the final total of snow from yesterday and overnight. It sounds like the evening rush hour was pure hell and I am so glad that I wasn't out to get stuck in it!

Photo: Final tally for the evening. Five inches of snow. I think it's done for now, but there might be more tomorrow.

Design Wall Monday - 11/25

I've been busy quilting. I'll post full pictures of the quilts later this week once I have them all cleaned up.

Saturday, I finished puppy prints.

101_2362

I just finished another quilt with Square Spiral. I need to get the binding made and sewn on so I have some hand stitching to do Thursday.

101_2359

And I have been working on assembling the split nine patch blocks. I still have a ways to go.

101_2361

Back to work for me!

Stash Report Week 45 - 46, 2013

I was pretty productive at retreat last weekend and got a bit of stash busted.

Not only did I make these pillowcases with the Quilt Girl fabric...

Photo: Third project finished from retreat. Pillowcases! #ohcraft #ohcraftsewin

But I also cut out fabric for 48 of these blocks. I got all of the HSTs sewn at the retreat and this past week, I worked on pressing them.

Last night, I laid out all the parts for blocks with a little help from Maisy and Lula.

And they are ready for assembly!

Other retreat sewing

I got some other things done at retreat after I finished quilting the Henry quilt.

I made pillowcases with the Quilt Girl fabric I picked up a couple of weeks ago.

Photo: Third project finished from retreat. Pillowcases! #ohcraft #ohcraftsewin

And I worked on the witch boots blocks. I finished pressing the frames on the blocks, separated the blocks into 4 wall hangings and then assembled the wall hangings.

101_2320

I left the black fabric for the inner borders at home so this is as far as I got. The pattern is Which Witch? by Crazy Old Ladies.

WIP Wednesday - 8/28

Monday evening, I finished the A blocks for the Easy Street mystery that Bonnie Hunter did for the holidays in 2012. This is the first mystery that I have ever done and I even started on it while the steps were still being published. :)

101_2084

Tuesday morning, I couldn't wait to web my first B block.

101_2087

And once I had that done, I just had to throw some of the setting triangles and finished blocks up on the wall to see how it was going to look.

101_2088

I just love it!! See what others are working on at Lee's blog.

Design Wall Monday - 8/26

So this week, a lot of progress was made on Easy Street.

This...

101_2060

became this...

101_2083

And finally this...

101_2084

All 16 of the A blocks are finished!

And now, I am starting the B blocks. One is done and only 8 more to do!

101_2085

I probably won't have them completely done before the end of the month, but by the end of next weekend is a pretty good estimate!

Tomorrow night, I need to finish quilting this for Gillian.
