Stash Report Week 21, 2012

What a week!! I was very busy at the early part of this past week with prepping the house for the dog sitter and prepping my projects to bring to Regina's. Right now, I am in upper NY with Regina and family and we are having a blast! As I type, I am listening to the Munchkin read a recipe to Regina's hubby so that they can make some treats for us to enjoy.

Friday, we went shop hopping with Shellie and hit 4 shops in the area. I picked up some fabrics for my next Scrap Squad so I do have some some yardage in to report. Not all of this was purchased, but this is the set of fabrics for the next quilt.



And I saw a couple of quilt blocks on barns.





I got fabric cut last night for the next SIS quilt. A stack of these 2.5" strips will be left for Regina and the rest will be sent to Sue.



I finished the Doodle Bugs quilt top last night so I am counting the fabrics for the top as busted. WOO HOO!!



I have also been playing with my camera a little and taking some pictures of things around Regina's house with some different view points. I really like how this one turned out! And I got a lot of pictures of the different flowers around Regina's garden.

Fiber Shop Hop

This morning, I drove to Wright Patt AFB to pick up Amy. She ditched her hubby and his friend to tour the museum and we hopped to some shops around Dayton. We stopped at one store first, but they didn't open until 1 - the only store that I didn't call to verify their hours. :( So we hopped to the next store.

The Busy Beaver Arts & Crafts store in Beavercreek. It was interesting. There were items from every craft that you can imagine. We had fun perusing the aisles looking for anything. If you are looking for general craft items, this might be the place for you, but it's not a great yarn store. We did find some Cherry Tree Hill yarn and I picked up this Cherry hank. It is gorgeous!



Our next stop was Yarn & Needle in Centerville. This was a very cute shop! Light and airy and well organized, I thought. I loved the second yarns shown - green and brown variegated. And since I wear lots of greens, I thought this would be perfect for me! It's very soft!

After Yarn & Needle, we went to Yarnique in Fairborn. This was a great shop!! A table of clearance yarn and very reasonably priced needles! I got 3 sets of circular needles to use to make 2 socks at once and they were cheaper than the other sets I have picked up. The yarn I got was TOFUtsies in yellow/butter and Claudia in Earth Dot.



Amy had started not feeling well so I took her back to the museum so that she could rest in the car and wait on her hubby and friend. I hope that she is feeling better!! We got a picture of us together, but we couldn't find anyone without screaming kids so we did a couple of do it yourselves!



And Amy brought me a couple of balls of sock yarn for driving up to meet her and driving her around. How sweet!!! I would've done it anyway just to see the shops in Dayton!!



After I dropped Amy off, I figured that I should stop at Yarns and Fabrications just to see what they have. Since I realized last night that I was low on pink and purple sock yarns, I just couldn't pass up this malabrigo in Violeta Africana. So soft!!



I'm happy to know that there are some other yarn shops around that I can go to when I might need to. :)

I also stopped on my way home to exchange my cable modem that stopped working again. The last modem lasted almost 4 years. This one only lasted since August. I hope that this one has a better track record!! Now, I have to empty my saved DVR shows so that I can replace that, too. UGH!! Technology!

A bit of fabric and a bit of yarn

Today, I am heading up to Dayton to pick up Amy so we can do a little shop hopping! She is in town for the weekend and is ditching her hubby for a few hours so we can meet and go to a couple of yarn shops and a quilt shop!

Last night, I was working on things to take with me to show Amy and a list of things to look for and I was straightening up my sewing area. I realized that I hadn't shared my accomplishment from Sunday.

I finished cutting all of the fabric for the 2009 Thimbleberries quilt. Months 6 through 12 and all the borders and assembly pieces. Awesome!!!



I also have fabric ready to cut for my SIS quilt, but I haven't gotten around to cutting it yet.

Because of all the sock yarn that I have gotten, I decided that I should pull it all out and see if there is an overabundance of 1 color so that I can make sure to not buy anymore of that color.



I think it is a good mix. If anything, I wear a lot of pink and purple so I could use more of those. IF there are any that are a good deal on sale!

It's not quite as many as I had expected to see. :)

Shopping on Saturday

Barb and I had plans to go shopping on Saturday for about a week. We spent all week texting about the shops and what we would buy! She showed up at my house around 10:30 and we were off!

She snapped a shot of me getting my books out of the car when we got to Valley Quilts.



They had their monthly Fat Quarter Frenzy over the weekend and all of the fat quarters were $1.75. This was great for me because I was looking for FQs for 2 different quilts. We spent about 2 hours in the shop and, for the most part, we were the only ones in there. I think that we were amusing the staff with our running to and fro to look at the patterns and the bags and the fabric!

Here is fabric for the first quilt I picked for. The pink and cream will be accents and I will cut the greens to follow the pattern and help enhance the design. I think this is 25 FQs with another half yard.



I also picked some FQs for a new challenge that the Tran-Quilt-ity group is starting. I'm working on the group blog for our challenge and when that is all set up, I will have a post about it with information. I'm really digging these colors and fabrics though! I think that they will work with the color scheme I have in mind.



The last little bit at Valley Quilts was the patterns and miscellaneous fabric and a spool of red, white and blue thread to quilt the comfort quilt that I am working on. I think that I know what I will do with this fabric. It's spools of thread on one set and sewing notions on the other. Very neat!



Towards the end of our visit at Valley Quilts, I was pushing Barb a little because I was hungry! We headed to the Village Family restaurant in Waynesville for lunch and pie and energy for shopping at the Fabric Shack! Barb had the apple dumpling and I had the peanut butter pie. Yum!!



Around this point, I think that Barb was muttering something about eating quietly, but I couldn't hear her over my mmmm's for the PB pie!! lol And I forgot to take a picture of my empty plate! :)



After lunch, we drove up the street to the Shack and I showed Barb all around it. Then, I got carried away with all the fabric and forgot what I was looking for and I wandered around aimlessly looking at all of the lines and imagining taking it all home with me! lol

Eventually, Barb found the Alexander Henry lines. Barb has a slight obsession with the pin up girl fabrics and she bought some island girls fabric and used it to make a One Block Wonder and it is very cute! She has also been sending me links to eBay auctions she finds and there was one fabric that I thought was awesome. I loved the colors and thought it, too, would make a great One Block Wonder. Fabric Shack had it. Now, I have it! It's called Future Ella in pink and is very retro to boot!



And while I was wandering around, I saw a cart with a sign that said 50% off! See that big roll? That is 40 5" strips of the Valley Forge line! The fabric is gorgeous! And I think it will be great for a Nickel quilt. I had also ordered some half yard cuts of clearance fabrics from the site and I was able to pick those up while we were there. Can't pass up 99 cents for a half yard! And I found a spool of King Tut red, white and blue thread so I got that for the comfort quilt because I prefer this brand over the other that I got at Valley Quilts.



After Fabric Shack, we headed to the Super Joann's. Barb was enthralled by the tins. She got all excited and took a long time to pick just one. :)



After running around the store, hearing a lady yell at her kid in a foreign language and finding some great stuff, we headed for the check out. While I was pulling my things out of the cart and putting them on the counter, a very rude lady walked right past Barb and came up to the counter I was at and handed her bias tape to the cashier. When I looked at her with my mouth hanging open in shock, she said, "Well, do you MIND?" Hmmm, what am I supposed to say at this time? Sure, it was one little package of bias tape. Then, SHE PULLED OUT A CREDIT CARD for a transaction that was $1.23!!! She didn't know how to work the machine and the 'quick little order' that she had ended up taking longer than my entire order! She didn't even say thank you. We had a good laugh with the cashier about it and then Barb and I chuckled about it a little more with thoughts of the "anonymous" comments that were left on my blog that morning.

So here is what I bought... 2 unidentified ornaments which will be presents for someone, but I've already changed my mind about who so it may be changed again soon. A pair of fuzzy socks and a magazine with part 3 of a mystery in it. And fabric for a Christmas pillowcase! And yes, we did actually find this fabric at Joann's!



So that was our day. We had a ton of fun and laughed a whole lot! And we have plans to do it again soon!

Retreat Post – Thursday #6

This will be the last Thursday post. I was trying to break them up so that A – I could write them in smaller bits and B – I would not end up with too many pictures in one post because I know how some blog readers don’t like seeing 20 pictures in one post because it can take forever to load them.

After we ate, we loaded back into the vehicles and headed to the Super Joann’s in Mason. There were some items on sale that we would need and it just seemed logical to stop for any last minute projects we thought we would need to work on.

For my donation to the retreat, I had made a Sewer’s Tool Caddy and then I made extra ones for Jen, Moneik and Regina. I had to get all of the notions to fill them up and luckily everything was on sale at Joann’s! Woo hoo!



I also picked up some flannel that was on sale to make some block roll ups at retreat. After getting held up at the cutting counter by some obnoxious men and only 1 employee, we FINALLY got waited on and headed out the door with bags in hand.

Our next stop was Best Friends Quilt Shoppe, my shop! We got there and had to wait for about 15 minutes for Mary because she had some donations for the raffle at the retreat. She met all the other shoppers and chatted with us for a few minutes. Everyone got a chance to look around the shop and have a preview of sorts for the sale on Sunday. And Jennifer and Regina made some purchases since they weren’t going to be back for the sale on Sunday.

We decided at this point that we were pretty pooped and not hungry enough for a restaurant, but we needed snacks for the retreat so we headed up the street to WalMart. Man, was that ever a mistake! What a ruckus we caused!





Unfortunately, the elders of our group told us to put the swords down. They would have been very useful items for the rest of the weekend!

After we left WalMart, we went back to my house for frozen pizzas and some relaxation. Well, some relaxation, but not a lot for me. I had to finish the name tags for the ladies attending retreat who weren’t peeps, quilt the quilt for Linda, leave a note for my aunt and cousin who were going to be watching the ninjas and pack EVERYTHING that I was going to need for retreat. I was starting to panic so I delegated the work that I could and then stayed up way too late again.

And Regina did a show for her quilts so that she could see them all in person. I think that she was very happy with what I did.

Retreat Post - Thursday #5

For our lunch break on Thursday, we went to the Peanut Butter Pie restaurant, also known as the Village Family Restaurant. I think that we had shopped ourselves silly and we were all starving! The food was great and the company was awesome! Regina just fit right in like she had been around us for hours!

And on my recommendation, we all had pie! I think that most of us had peanut butter. All but the 2 with the allergies, if memory serves me correctly. Although, I think that Moneik got the Reese’s pie which may have had a layer of chocolate, but it still have the peanut butter in there! And I also missed a picture of Moneik, but here is everyone else with their pie!

I think it was unanimous that the pie was awesome!

Once we were done, I drove with Regina and told her where we were heading and the others in the van used Jen’s Garmin to get to the next stops.

Retreat Post – Thursday #4

After we left Aunt Ruth’s, we hopped up the street to Sew Ezy. This is the shop where I bought my new machine, JJ. I had all of my accessories for Bubba the Brother to drop off and it was very nice to get it all out of my way in my sewing area at home!







Regina would be sad to miss these 2 animals hanging around outside of the shop.




I’m not sure what the others got in the shop, but I knew that there were some dog fabrics that I needed for the quilt that I have to make. I picked up these with the idea that the white on white will be used in the sashing.



Once we were all done here, we raced to the Fabric Shack to meet up with Regina who had been there for a while looking around. In all of the excitement of meeting someone new, we all forgot pictures!

As we pulled into the parking lot, I looked for a New York state license plate and I didn’t see any, even though there were plenty of out-of-towners yelling, “THERE it is!!!” I was worried that she got tired of waiting and went somewhere else. It turns out that she parked a street away and walked to the shop. I called her cell phone and she said that she was in the back at the bathrooms. Knowing the store like I do, I ran to the back and we ran right into her! Hugs were passed out and then we started shopping and asking her how the drive was. She was so excited that she was on the road at 4:30 AM instead of 5 like she had planned. She also took way too many potty breaks!

Because it was getting past my normal lunchtime I was getting hungry. I made my fabric choices and then went and sat quietly outside waiting for the others so that we could go for lunch.



Again, I missed most of what everyone else bought. And when everyone was mostly done, I ran with Regina to her car and we drove to the restaurant for lunch.

Retreat Post - Thursday #3

After we had our fill of pictures with the squirrel, we headed to Aunt Ruth's Scrapbasket. This is what we saw outside of the shop.





When we walked in, Cory asked if we were the shop hoppers for the day. She said that the owner of Stitches had just called to let her know that we were on our way! We got a very warm welcome!

Jen enjoyed seeing some of the bags that they had on display and she got some ideas for altering one of the bags that she made. She was pretty happy! I found this pattern and just had to take a picture of it!

Four Seasons of Outhouses!

I found a dog fabric and a bundle of fat quarters to take with me.



And an interesting book for scrap quilts.



As we were leaving, we asked Cory to take a picture of us with the quilt blocks that they have on display and she was more than happy to help us out!



With our bags getting a little fuller, we were on our way to the next shop. And I got word from Regina A that she was about an hour from our meeting place. We had to hurry!
