Wednesday update

I thought that I would give an update on my To Do list that I posted on Friday.

Long Weekend Plans

One big project at work was finished this week so I decided to take a couple of days off to take advantage of the long weekend. I have many projects to work on at home really need the time to get myself organized a little more.

This will become a weighted blanket. If all goes well, I  might be making a small one for Max to see if it helps him when he gets anxious.



I still need to finish the sides and bottom of the t-shirt quilt and then make the backing and binding and get it quilted.



And then I have stacks of projects ready to be cut or pieced or bordered and finished.

Stash Report Week 41, 2013

I spent my weekend so far working on # 10 on my list - quilting the snowflake quilt.

The panto is Glacee - a ClothWerx panto I got from Willow Leaf Studios. I love that site!! The panto is 14"with a very small overlap. And a lot of detail!

WIP Wednesday - 12/19

To my regular readers, I promise this will be the last time that I show this quilt until it hangs in the show in April. Well, assuming that it will hang in the show in April. :)

This week, I finished Spinnerei, my Modern Dresden Plate quilt.







I got the blocks finished, the quilt top assembled, the quilting done in a day and the binding, hanging sleeve and label sewn down. It was a rough couple of days, but I am so glad to be finished. And I am tickled pink with it.

I also picked up a Singer 221-1 Featherweight and have played a bit to get used to it.

Monthly Accomplishments - November 2012

I am just a week late on last month's accomplishments. I even thought about posting it last week, but got sidetracked.

1. Added borders, made backing, quilted and sewed binding to the fifth Scrap Squad
2. Finished the 4th, 5th and 6th blocks for the Paris in the Fall BOM
3. Quilted the Texas quilt for Gerre and sewed the binding on it
4. Midget blocks - pulled fabric for next 10 blocks and made blocks 53, 54 and 55, and 56
5. Was finally able to reveal that I quilted 3 quilts for a book
6. Bought some fabric for the Dresden Plate quilt - still haven't started the quilt

WIP Wednesday - 11/7

I didn't report last week because I didn't have anything to report. But last weekend, I went gangbusters and have a ton to catch up on!

I didn't get 2 midget blocks done, but I did get fabric pulled for the rest of this set of 10.




I only got one set of BOM blocks made.



And the 5th Scrap Squad is in the hand stitching the binding phase. Woo hoo! Maisy likes to help with this phase.



I also got a Texas quilt quilted, but I still have to get the binding made and attached to it so that I can finish it up and ship it back.



And I need to make the giveaway items for Debbie. I haven't forgotten!!! If nothing else, they will definitely be done in time for Christmas!

WIP Wednesday - 9/5

Well, not much done this week. Too much drama kept me out of my studio. I vow to not be distracted over the next week!

I did get my Midget block finished.





And the 12th BOM block.





I loved looking at all 12 blocks on the design wall. I left them up for about an hour and then packed the blocks up. I need the wall for the Scrap Squad quilt.



I did get the last 5 Witch blocks done, too. I hope that I can get a chance to assemble the quilt tops soon for those wall hangings.

And I have cut focus fabric for the Scrap Squad. I have 1/3 of the blocks made and 1/3 ready to be pressed and more assembly is required. I'm not as far along on that project as I had wanted to be this week.

I also didn't get the baby quilt done in time for the baby shower, but I know that it will be done in time for the birth. That's what counts!

I think that I will leave my goals for next week the same. :)

Weekend Update #3

I got a lot done! I wish I had gotten a couple more things done, but what I accomplished is not too shabby!

Here's the update.

1. SS quilt #1 - finish assembling top, making binding, make backing, quilt - DONE! I even have a label made and the label and the binding attached to the quilt and ready to be hand stitched down.
2. Stitch down binding on cow quilt - I am just about halfway done on this. It is a queen size quilt after all. :)
3. Prepare envelopes of tickets for the Guild Raffle quilt so that we can pass them out to members on Monday - DONE!!
4. Quilt the quilt received today - or at least get it loaded and started - It's loaded! See below
5. Add the borders to at least one of the bow tie quilts - Did not even get one of the quilt centers pressed
6. make backing for Argyle Holiday - might as well make more if I am going to make one - DONE!!!
7. Make backing for Doodlebugs quilt - DONE!!!
8. Errands to bank, library and post office - and of course, this was done, too!

Here is the quilt that I loaded. It is a great scrappy quilt! The quilt is from Suzanne.

It's too bad that I have to go to work tomorrow because I am on a roll!

Weekend Update #2

Great progress today! I got a few more errands run and filled up my car with gas at $3.25. Woot!!

I finished all of the envelopes for the Quilt Raffle tickets that I need to have done by Monday.



I'm sure that by Monday night, I will have a picture of the quilt to show off here.

Over the course of the day, I worked on the binding on the cow quilt. I have 1 long side done.

I also drew up the second Scrap Squad quilt in EQ so that I could see if my design idea was going to work. I think it will and I will be pulling the fabric to work on it very soon!

And speaking of Scrap Squad, I loaded the first quilt on the frame and got it quilted today! Here's a picture of the backing.



And of course Maisy had to inspect it!

Weekend Update #1

The Scrap Squad #1 quilt is assembled and the backing is made! Great progress so far!

And this is just about all that I can show...



Tomorrow, I will load the quilt on the frame and get it quilted. And tackle a bias binding because the fabric that I picked isn't good as a width of fabric cut. Sigh.

And with that, it's time for bed!

Busy weekend

I have so much to do! I have been keeping a list and trying to keep up with it, but work has been down right awful the last couple of weeks and I have had issues concentrating on anything by the time I get home.

But my list keeps growing with things to do! I have the 2 bow tie quilts that I showed on Sunday and I got another quilt in the mail today that I want to get quilted and sent back.

I'm very excited to have the quilting to do for others! I had weeks where I wondered if I was going to get any quilts, so I am so happy to have the items to work on that I do!

But I also have the Scrap Squad quilt and we already have the pattern for the second quilt. The first ones should be showing on the Quiltmaker's blog next week so I will be able to show off my quilt soon. I can't keep a secret so I am excited to show it off!

So I am making and updating my To Do list for the weekend. Want to see it? Well, since it is MY blog, I am going to show it off. :)

In Training

In 5 weeks, I will be in Shipshewana, IN on a quilt retreat. I'm very excited about the retreat because this will be my only retreat this year. It runs from Thursday through Sunday.

I have been a little lax in my sewing for the past few months due to the renovations at the house and creating my new studio space. I feel like I am starting to get my quilting mojo back, but in order to be ready to quilt til I drop in Shipshewana, I need to put myself on a bit of a training schedule.

In addition to the 'training,' I need to make sure my house is put back in order and all cleaned up because my co-worker's daughter will be staying at the condo and dog sitting while I am gone. And actually, I need to get the house back in order a few weeks before the retreat because she will be coming over to meet the dogs a couple of weeks before I leave.

With all of this in mind, I have been making myself daily To Do lists and giving myself tasks to get done that day, that week and before retreat. I have been  doing pretty well so far. I want to try and have a balance of progressing my own projects as well as getting some quilting done for others. And I am trying to keep my plans reasonable.

My plan for training is to try and get something quilty done at least everyday. I have been pretty successful this week so far. I finished the quilting on the Split Second Decision and worked on the piecing for the SIS quilt.

And last night, I added a tab to the blog of my quilting. It has been dubbed my Quilt-folio! (Thanks to Regina for the ingenious name!) I hope to add more designs to it soon!

Today, I plan to work on my SIS blocks a little more, prep and load Regina's Sunny Lanes on the frame for some quilting, and trim and add the binding to Split Second Decision.

There is always something to be done! And so I'm off to get started!

List update again

Tonight, I finished cutting out the Maxine and flamingo quilts AND made the next Midget block! Here are the pieces for the Maxine and flamingo quilts. This is sure going to come in handy when my order from the Fat Quarter Shop arrives!



And here is my updated list!

1. Finish practicing new quilt design on the practice quilt on the frame
2. Load and quilt Andi's quilt
3. Borders on Split Decision
4. Finish pressing Star Struck - I got the block pieces pressed and decided that I would pair the pieces up to give myself something to sew on as Leaders and Enders. So I am not putting the project away, but it's not going to be a main focus for a while.
5. Piece backing for Regina's quilt - I have modified this to just piecing the backing.
6. Cut the fabric for the flamingo and Maxine quilts. 
7. Pull fabrics for next set of Midget Blocks.
8. Prepare another donation to Goodwill and drop it off. 
9. Taxes - DONE and mailed on Saturday. WOO HOO!
10. Make next Midget Block
11. Finish cleaning second floor - almost done! Just need to vacuum the hallway and 2 rooms and then clean the bathroom. Easy peasy at this point!
12. Write reviews and schedule for posting
13. Pick March PIGS winner and write post
14. Pull fabrics and prep for class on Thursday
15. Grocery shopping

I'm totally thinking that I could get the vacuuming and bathroom done tomorrow and then spend the rest of the evening sewing and most of Wednesday evening sewing as well! At least until I have to go to the airport!

And the pups are just asking, "Why are you doing all this cleaning again?"

Another To Do list! Well, it's more of an update of last week's To Do list.

1. Finish practicing new quilt design on the practice quilt on the frame
2. Load and quilt Andi's quilt
3. Borders on Split Decision
4. Finish pressing Star Struck - I got the block pieces pressed and decided that I would pair the pieces up to give myself something to sew on as Leaders and Enders. So I am not putting the project away, but it's not going to be a main focus for a while.

FNSI and updates on list

I have been pretty productive so far this weekend! I hope that tomorrow is just as good...

Last night, I finished the quilting on the practice quilt. I was trying to float the top, but I ended up pinning the top to the rail so that it would help hold down the puffiness of the poly batting. I definitely felt better about the quilt design when I was done with the quilt.



Once I took this quilt off the frame, I loaded up the quilt for Andi and then prepared a load of donations to Goodwill.

This morning, I tried to walked the dogs, but it was windy and VERY cold so we gave up and went back inside. I loaded up my car with the donation and the rest of my stamp sets and headed out to meet a lady who was buying the rest of the sets. WOO HOO!! Now, I just have a few more things to get rid of and then I can straighten up the basement. Nice! After I met the lady and dumped off my donation, I ran a couple of other errands and came home. So nice to be in a warm house while the wind was blowing outside.

I started quilting Andi's quilt right around noon and didn't get finished until 6:30. I managed a few breaks in there, but it was probably about 5 and 1/2 hours of quilting and I went through about 8 bobbins of Bottom Line. I am not sure if I can show the whole quilt on my blog, but here is a picture of the quilting. The fabric is navy blue and the top thread was a Navy Coats and Clark.



And here is my list from yesterday with my updates.

Max says, "Forget the quilting and the bones.... It's just you and me!" He gets a little antsy when I quilt - it's not his favorite past time for me. lol

Year of the PIGS - 1/19

It's time to answer another Year of the PIGS question! 

This week, I asked you to give some stats on your PIGS! Do you have a list of your PIGS and is it current? How many PIGS and UFOs do you have? What is your oldest and how old is it?

I have several lists and I do my best to keep them up to date. Last year, I started posting the list in the tabs on this blog and you can see the separate tabs at the top of this page just under the header with the pictures, but I can post the links here, too. I have different tabs for Flimsies, UFOs, Quilt Kits, Bag Kits, Runner kits, Wall Hanging Kits, and Pants/Miscellaneous kits.

Last January, I reorganized my stash room and I went through an old list and added all the new kits that I had forgotten to add in the months prior to the reorganization. I have tried to keep up with the list by adding things as I have set the fabric aside and for the most part, I believe that these lists are current. Give or take 3 to 5 kits overall.

For me, having the lists all made up helps me when I am trying to figure out a new project to work on or when I need to make something up for a present or a specific purpose. I also have enough of a description that I know the general color of the finished project in case I am looking to make something in that color.

And things do have a tendency to jump lists. As soon as I grab a kit and start cutting, the kit is a UFO and I generally move it to the UFO tab the next time that I am online. Also, I don't always get to the binding after I have a flimsie quilted so they usually end up back on the UFOs tab until the binding is complete and a label is slapped on. Binding is the final stage after all!

Now for my oldest UFO. I have only been a quilter for 4 years this month. But my oldest UFO is the first project that I started. It is the bane of my quilting life! It is just about 4 years old.

Here is a picture of my "staging area," as I like to call it. This is where I put the current projects that I am working on and things that I want to start working on imminently.



Do you see that red box in the middle? Under the filling for rice bags? In this box is a project that I dread working on. It's not that I don't like the fabric or that I don't care if it ever makes it to a finish. My issue with this UFO is that it is so dang tedious!



It's a hexagon rag quilt. A HEXAGON rag quilt!



I love the fabrics! They are all so girly and me. But the sewing of the pieces is just too dang tedious! I got 1 row and most or part of a second going and gave up. I don't think that I have touched it once since I packed it up in this box. The problem was that to sew any side together, you have to be sure to make locking stitches at both the start and end of the part to be sewn. This doesn't even count the work that will have to be done once it is all assembled and needs to be snipped.

I greatly dislike rag quilts!

A Final Look - 2010 Crafting Goals

Last year, I came up with a list of goals for 2010. I posted recaps on all the goals in May, but I haven't posted about them since then.

While I may have gone overboard with things to put on the list, but I am sure that I wouldn't have done a few things without keeping the Goals in mind throughout the year.

1. Show at least 100 yds Net Fabric used in the Stash Reports. I am ending the year at less than -100 yards so I am happy about that! I finished 2009 at -178 yards so I think that this year was a step in the right direction. :)
2. Finish a 'big' project before starting a new 'big' project. I think that I have done pretty well on this front. I don't have a lot of new projects from this year that added to last year's UFO list.
3. Organize Stash Room. This was done in January, but so much new fabric was acquired with little old space made so there are some stacks of fabric around the room. Definitely needs to be remedied!
4. Use scraps and crumbs. I have used scraps for various little projects, but not nearly enough of either scraps or crumbs to make any kid of a difference.
5. Make a project using applique. I haven't finished an applique project, but I have made great progress on the Which Witch wall hangings. I'm definitely feeling more comfortable with the entire process.
6. Use 10 new patterns. Accomplished!! 1 - Regina's Quilt; 2 - sock knitting bag; 3 - Reversible table runner, 4 - Stars and Pinwheels (SIS quilt); 5 - Bento Box; 6 - Optical Illusion; 7 - Spin City; 8 - Lucky Charm Table Runner; 9 - Margo Lazy Girl bag; and 10 - Block of the Month - teal and brown
7. Make 12 charity quilts. Almost accomplished. Got pretty darn close! 9 have been quilted and bound as of 10/20/10
8. Don't buy any new books or patterns. I went most of the year without buying any new quilting books or patterns, but I did get several knitting books. I think that I only bought 1 or 2 quilting books myself. the rest were gifts. :)
9. Complete Granny Square afghan. The blocks are done. I think that I even went so far as to look up how to attach the blocks to each other. But I am going to have to look those up again.
10. Knit 1 pair of socks. DONE - 3/28/10
11. Knit 12 baby caps. 4 DONE by 6/12/10. Four is better than none, right?
12. Finish bear cross stitch. I attempted this. Although, it wasn't much of an attempt - I only spent 1 evening actually stitching on it! lol
13. Get rid of stamping stuff. A lot was sold, but there is still more. I have plans to start listing the crap stuff on CraigsList this weekend.
14. Get to 1,000 posts on blog for Awesome Giveaway!- Done!!! WOO HOO!!

It looks like there will be a few goals that get carried forward into 2011. I will have to think on the goals for the new year for a while though.
