Stash Report Week 45 - 46, 2013

I was pretty productive at retreat last weekend and got a bit of stash busted.

Not only did I make these pillowcases with the Quilt Girl fabric...



But I also cut out fabric for 48 of these blocks. I got all of the HSTs sewn at the retreat and this past week, I worked on pressing them.

Last night, I laid out all the parts for blocks with a little help from Maisy and Lula.

 

And they are ready for assembly!

Stash Report Weeks 4 and 5, 2013

Saturday a week ago, I went to a Sew In and I have been just a tad off ever since. I think that I just got my bags and totes unpacked! And I didn't even get all that much done at the sew in. It was great getting out and meeting some new gals while getting a little sewn. :)

Since I got a little sewn, I was able to get a little bit of fabric busted. I am going to use my stash report to give an update on the last 2 weeks.

I went to Sewn Studio on Shop Your LQS day and I got this fabulous layer cake. I love Cosmo Cricket and I have no idea what I will do with it, but I had to have it!



Kara assembled our Sew In and we sewed all day at the clubhouse at her condo.



There was a ton of food! And after dinner, I was in a food coma and didn't do anything for the rest of the night. lol



Alli had Sparkly shoes and I had to get a picture of them! She has a Boston terrier named Lola so we bonded over dogs.



I made 2 midget blocks and 2 pillowcases.





I also cut a very little bit of green fabric for the Easy Street mystery.

And I got 4 FQs as a door prize!

WIP Wednesday - 8/8

Another good week to report on!

I finished the wall hanging for my co-worker last night and gave it to her today. I even got a hanging sleeve on it. It needs a little ironing, but it is ready for the 80th birthday party and autographs of family members in the outer border.

I got my two blocks made.



I even made 5 pillowcases for the CMQG summer challenge.



And I have all of the fabric together for the next Scrap Squad, I just didn't get around to getting any of it cut last week.

Stash Report Week 31, 2012

What a great week for my stash busting! And my own personal Quilt-A-Thon is moving along. I didn't get as much done yesterday as I had hoped for, but sometimes things take a little longer than anticipated.

I am almost done with the wall hanging for my co-worker. I need to hand stitch the binding and the hanging sleeve down. I also need to use the scraps to make a test patch for people to see how the pens work on the fabric so that hopefully no one will mess up the border on the wall hanging when they sign it.



My modern quilt guild gave a challenge to bring in pillowcases for ConKerr and I had been putting it off. Since our meeting is this Wednesday, I decided on Friday night to add some pillowcases to my pile of projects for my Quilt-A-Thon. I sewed my tubes and turned them inside out last night, now I just need to trim them and do the French seams for the sides and then throw them in the wash.



I also prepped some other fabric to be cut today for a baby quilt. I am ready to get moving!

Monthly Accomplishments - January 2012

I'm a couple of days late for my January accomplishments, but better late than never!

1. Midget blocks - 26, 27, 28, and 29
2. Cow Quilt - assembled top, quilted, attached binding and label
3. Announced my business Darling Jill Quilts with a Facebook page and a blog update
4. Picked fabrics, cut and began assembly of my first Scrap Squad quilt
5. Ohio Star quilt - loaded on the frame, quilted and attached binding. I also made the hanging sleeve, but I still need to attach that and the label.
6. Had a sewing day at my house with a few quilt buddies. Helped Barb with her Ohio Star quilt.
7. Made 2 cow pillowcases
8. Got awesome Christmas deliveries from my parents and Regina
9. Picked up 2 customer quilts for quilting and picked out fabric for the borders and backs
10. Quilted a lap quilt for Lynn
11. I also have been knitting on my two at a time socks this month, but it's more of the same so I haven't taken any pictures of it. I'm hoping to be nearing the end of these socks soon!

And read a little. I have officially fallen off of my reading wagon - I didn't even get anything finished this past week!

Stash Report Week 3, 2012

I got a lot busted this week!

The flanges and cuffs for 2 pillowcases - the body of the pillowcase was cut last year.



The backing for the cow quilt - a queen size quilt takes queen sized backing! (Or prince sized depending on who is using the quilt at the time.)



And I started cutting pieces for my first Scrap Squad quilt. I am going to finish the cutting this morning and start making my blocks!



And still nothing added!

Design Wall Monday - 1/16/2012

Lots happened in the studio yesterday, but I have nothing on my design wall to show for it. Well, nothing of my own. I helped Barb with her Ohio Star quilt and she got four blocks done and on the wall. It's her own design and the blocks look fantastic!



She did lots of piecing here.




Lynn was here and let Max keep her company on the bed. She is working on the binding for her Ohio Star quilt.



Kelly was here, too, and brought these wonderfully adorable color blocked sugar cookies. She's so creative! But I didn't get a picture of anything that she worked on. And she did a lot!



And Christy showed up later than she expected, but she got a lot done, too. I just forgot to take pictures after she got here.

I worked on sewing up the last edge of a dog pillow that Jennifer made me a couple of years ago that I have been filling up with scraps. I decided enough was enough and just sewed up the side. It's now on the bed to be used.



And I worked on the backing for the cow quilt and then made 2 pillowcases and the binding.




Max thought that he would pitch in a paw somewhere and help out. As long as there were treats involved.

Monthly Accomplishments - April 2011

What a month! Lots of fun was had at the beginning on the month and lots of sewing was done after that! :)

1. Cut out and assembled the flamingo quilt and made the binding and backing
2. Cut out and assembled the Maxine quilt and made the binding and backing
3. Made Midget blocks - 9, 10, 11, and 12
4. Got the borders on Split Second Decision and made the backing
5. Took Gayle Bong's Save the Scraps workshop at the IQF with my bestie, Regina!
6. Hosted Regina, Susan, Marj and Carolyn for the weekend of IQF and had a group over for dinner during the weekend that included Jean, Kelly and Barb. We also got to see Jennifer lots during the weekend, too!
7. Drew up an idea for the Modern Quilt Guild Challenge and got my fabrics
8. Finished the Star Struck blocks and got them laid out on the design wall
9. Made 8 pillowcases
10. Almost finished new leaders for the quilt frame
11. Cut out the Paris in the Fall BOM for the UFO Challenge

Stash Report Week 18, 2011

There was a lot of activity this week! Lots in and lots out!

Let's start with what was brought in...  Black and a range of pink to deep burgundy for the Organic Challenge with the Modern Quilt Guild. The due date on this quilt is the end of June so it shouldn't be sitting for too long.



And a brown for the Star Struck quilt for the borders and binding.



And now for the busted...  I got the leaders cut for the quilt frame. I just need to make a casing on each one for the tube and then I can put them on the rails and put the frame back together.



I also got 8 pillowcases cut and sewn up. Three were from left over fabric from when I made pants in February and then I figured that since I was making a few, I might as well make up the other ones that I had fabric purchased specifically for pillowcases.



And I cut up the Paris in the Fall kit that was April's UFO. Just knowing that it is all cut up and ready to be sewn is a relief!

15 Minute Challenge - April 26

Kate is hosting a 15 Minute a Day Challenge which encourages everyone to be creative for 15 minutes a day and then report on Tuesdays how you did in the previous week.

Last week, I said that I was hoping to get in 30 minutes a day. I fell short by one day!

Tuesday, April 19	Sewed half blocks up of Star Struck, pressed ½ blocks and put inner border on Maxine quilt
Wednesday, April 20	Paired ½ blocks of Star Struck, worked on nickel border on Maxine quilt
Thursday, April 21	Finished borders on Maxine quilt, worked a lot on the Star Struck blocks
Friday, April 22	Finished the Star Struck blocks – sewing and pressing and shopped at JoAnn’s
Saturday, April 23	Cleaned up rails from quilt frame and paired up some fabric for pillowcases. Also laid out Star Struck blocks.
Sunday, April 24	Cut out 6 pillowcases and got 3 prepped for sewing, cut out leaders for quilt rails and straightened up sewing area.
Monday, April 25	The day I fell short. :( But I got a lot of cleaning done in the house to prep for this week! And I figured out the fabric and amounts to order for the Organic Challenge.

Last night, I totally forgot about the Challenge or I would've finished prepping the last 3 pillowcases. I probably did spend 15 minutes on figuring out my fabric and quantity for the Organic quilt though.

Stash Report Week 17, 2011

This week, I did a little shopping since there were good coupons at JoAnn's and I needed a few things. I picked up a few pieces to finish the pillowcases with the fabrics that were left over from the pants that I made in February. They are all laid out and ready to cut, but I didn't get around to it yesterday.



I did get the backings pressed and cut for the Maxine and flamingo quilts. That's a nice chunk of fabric busted!



I also bought leader fabric for the frame but I didn't get around to making those yesterday either. But this week looks promising for stash busting again.

Stash Report Week 2, 2010

I still haven't sewn a stitch this year... But I have been reorganizing my stash room and finding lots of fabric that I no longer want. This is a great thing for Regina who is getting 1 box this week and another next week of fabric. I was actually surprised with how many fabric pieces I could shove into a medium flat rate box! In all, I have estimated 20 yards of fabric that I am sending her. Most of it is homespuns and homespun'ish fabric that I don't care to work with, but that Regina loves.

While folding the last of my fabric last night, I realized that I have plenty of novelty fabric that would lend itself quite well to charity pillowcases. I see some of those in my future, too!

December Accomplishments

Well, after ringing in the New Year last night with the pups, I am ready to get busy on my goals! I pulled some fabric last night and cut out a few things to make some UFOs. After playing with this fabric, I am excited to work on these projects!

I've also decided that I need to have crafty accomplishments instead of just quilty accomplishments since I am knitting and crocheting again. And hopefully will be cross stitching before too much longer!

1. Signed up for a knitted sock class. It starts on Monday and I am very excited!
2. Finished 3 Lemon place mats for 2 different sets of the fruit place mats and table runners.
3. Wrote a knitted baby cap tutorial.
4. Finished a second knitted baby cap.
5. Finished the Storm at Sea binding and label.
6. Made a set of criss cross coasters.
7. Made a Hot Stuff oven mitt.
8. Made a 9 patch block for the River City Guild.
9. Got to the 200 yards used mark for the year!
10. Made 2 Christmas hunks pillowcases.
11. Made a travel case, a take along bag and a thread catcher.
12. Made a Stich'N' Chix bag.
13. Got my quilting machine working and quilted a baby quilt and 4 place mats!
14. Got a quilt from my bestest friend, Regina! It's just gorgeous!! And now a UFO for me. *sigh*
15. Got a very cute sock knitting bag and a Homefront charm pack from Sue!! Love it!
16. Started organizing my stash room and took inventory of my projects.
17. Packaged up the swap box and comfort quilt for Heather. I'm happy that she got the swap by Christmas!
18. Started a blog for a Judy Martin Quilt Support group.
19. Came up with my 2010 crafting goals.
20. I haven't posted pictures, but I also got 4 granny squares completed for the Calypso afghan that I started crocheting in November.
21. Knitted 2 or 3 dishcloths.

Wow! I was busy!! Now, for the books... I finished 8 books in December!!

1. Knit Two by Kate Jacobs - sequel to the Friday Night Knitting Club. I enjoyed this one!
2. A Quilter's Holiday by Jennifer Chiaverini - the latest book in the Elm Creek Quilter's series. These are very easy to read and not worth getting the audio book. I can read them much faster than listening to them. It was enjoyable, if not a little predictable.
3. Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie - cute, light book.
4. The Shop on Blossom Street by Debbie Macomber - about a yarn and knitting shop. I read this one 'manually,' too. It was a good read and I couldn't put it down once I got started. Very easy read! First Macomber book I've read and I am more than halfway through with the second in the series.
5. A Superior Death by Nevada Barr - This is the second or third in the series. I enjoy the books, but not all of them are on audio as unabridged. This was one, but I can't find the next one so it will be a manual read, too. I like all the twists in Barr's books. I enjoy trying to figure out who the killer is.
6. The Tenth Circle by Jodi Picoult - I enjoyed this book, but it was a little different than the rest of Picoult's books. I kept waiting for the court room scenes and was a little surprised when the book ended a little suddenly.
7. Finger Lickin' Fifteen by Janet Evanovich - a typical Stephanie Plum book! :)
8. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon - LOVED IT!!! I finished this book last night just a few minutes after the ball dropped. Several times last year, I got into book discussions with ladies at the quilt shop and a couple of them said that I just HAD to read this book. When they described it to me, I just sort of smiled and nodded with no real interest. But the comments that the ladies made about the book and the excitement that they showed stuck with me. I downloaded the book from Audible.com early in December and started it just before Christmas. I couldn't turn it off!! I have already downloaded the second book in the series, but I think that I am going to listen to something else first. If you like period/historical novels and romances, this book it for you!!

Man, I did a lot this month!! I'm amazed that I got 8 books read with everything else that I got done, too! I totally rock! ;)

Little things done

Last week, I made an effort to sew at least an hour each night. Even on the nights when I had a Guild meeting and a holiday office party I still got an hour in.

I finished my Christmas hunks pillowcases.



Using the instructions from the Oven Mitt pattern for the bias tape binding, I figured out a much easier way to bind the fruit place mats that I put together. Here are 2, but I finished the third about a half hour ago. Much easier to machine stitch it all down than to try and hand sew every one of them when I will have 13 total to do.



Friday, I quilted! More on that in a separate post. And Saturday, I worked on a few things. A take along bag, a thread catcher and a travel case. All 3 made with less than 3/4 yards of each fabric!



Then, I made this Stitchin' Chix bag for a holiday party last night. I almost wish that I had brought it back home with me! But I have more cut out! The bag was pretty well received and it would have been better had it not been for Barb and her blasted home made Snuggie! (Holla!!!)




Today, I spent some time holding Max - his back is bothering him today - and burying threads in the comfort quilt, ripping some stitches out and crocheting a little. I have been pretty productive!

The sewing going on and a win

I had big plans for last weekend to wrap up some little things that I had already cut out. I ended up finishing a baby cap and a dish cloth instead. Finally, on Sunday night, Regina and I had a virtual sewing night and I busted some things out!



Sunday, I got a set of 4 coasters and an oven mitt done. The oven mitt was from a pattern - Hot Stuff by Vanilla House designs. I probably would not make another one of these, but it is nice to have this done! I also got 4 place mat tops assembled. I want to quilt them on the frame, but I haven't messed with the frame anymore to quilt anything nice.

Monday, I was productive, too. I added the binding to the Love Crumb quilt that was made with blocks from the Bonnie Hunter class. And I made a very long strip of binding for the place mats.

Tuesday was the River City Quilt Guild meeting and we had a pot luck dinner. We had to take a block that represented the food that we brought. Here's my block...



I made brownies with a smattering of powdered sugar! I met Barb and her aunt, Barb, at Joann's before we went to the library. We were all acting goofy in Joann's and the workers were cracking up with us! Of course, I had to pick up a couple of things.



A cute flannel with paw prints and dog bones on it! I will make pants out of this and they will be so nice in January when I can't wear my Christmas pants anymore! I got the other two to make a couple of goodies.

At the Guild meeting, we had door prizes and I won a magazine! More Fast & Fabulous Quilting Ideas! And Barb brought me some fabric that she found at Joann's. Hunks in costume!! I have enough for 2 pillowcases! One for me and one for the 1,000th post giveaway in a couple of months! lol



Ok, I am off to sew my Christmas hunks into a pillowcase that I can use right now! I will sleep well tonight!!
